Are we still using claymores? Recent vets - they used to be effective
for defensive positions on patrols, etc. Just wondering if they are obsolete or still in use.

1. In addition to defense, claymores also provided a ready supply of C-4 to heat your Cs. n/t

5. Cannot begin to answer your question - but have to
tell you that your post title proved to me, yet again, that I shouldn't read DU right after I get up.

"Claymores??" I thought to myself, upon scanning your post title, "I had NO idea the US Army used swords . . ."

(Took two rereads before my brain kicked in - I really need to do something else early in the morning!)

:)

18. And you know why it says "Front Towards Enemy"
because some moron probably placed it the wrong way.

10. We will never stop using Claymores
They're the perfect weapon: cheap, reliable, versatile and effective.

Unfortunately, they're as effective at killing the people behind the mine as they are killing those in front of it.

13. and roger
Especially on SKT's where we were going to be there for more than 2+ hours, COP defense etc.
We would rape the kit for the clackers and testers, nonel firing systems are a plenty in
country but electric stuff is hard to find sometimes. Plus a 9 volt battery and a multimeter
just doesn't have that pro touch to it.

14. Front Toward Enemy--great name for a rock band
I intended to post under that name when I registered at DU, but screwed it up.

15. As far as I know
I went through basic in 03 and we trained with them but in my
deployments I can only recall ever actually emplacing them
maybe three or four times. We hauled a few boxes of em around
but use on a regualr basis was time consuming and rest was a
valuable commodity those first couple years I was out there.
