Reserve sergeant dies in AfghanistanStaff report

A Marine Corps Reserve noncommissioned officer from Texas died Saturday in Afghanistan, according to the Defense Department.
Sgt. Cesar B. Ruiz, 26, of Bexar, Texas, died supporting combat operations in Helmand province. He was an Individual Ready reservist assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, which is based at Camp Pendleton, Calif., according to a spokesman with Marine Forces Reserve.
It’s not immediately clear how Ruiz died.
A combat engineer, Ruiz was serving his second tour in Afghanistan, Marine officials said. He had deployed there previously from November 2004 to June 2005.
Ruiz joined the Corps in January 2003, officials said. His personal decorations include a Purple Heart.
