BREMERTON, Wash. — About 2,000 people are expected for Saturday’s decommissioning ceremony for the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk in Bremerton.

The ceremony will be held on the ship’s hangar deck where photos of the ships 47-year history will be displayed. It sent aircraft into combat over Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Kitty Hawk was homeported in San Diego until 1998 when it moved to Japan and operated for nearly a decade as the Navy’s overseas aircraft carrier. It was relieved last year by the USS George Washington and arrived at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in September for inactivation.
