AFPC to oversee medical record transfers
AFPC to oversee medical record transfers

Beginning Feb. 1, the Air Force Personnel Center will take over responsibility for transferring medical and dental records of airmen who retire or separate to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The center officially got the mission Oct. 30 and began a test program at Randolph Air Force Base, Lackland Air Force Base and Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas. More bases will be added this year, officials said.

AFPC will be responsible for the records of airmen who retired or separated on Jan. 1 or later, according to a press release.

Under the old system, a separating airman’s medical treatment facility would send his medical record to the base personnel office, which would then mail the record to AFPC.

Now, the medical facility will hold the record for 30 days after the date of retirement or separation so late-arriving documents will make it into the record. The facility will then send the record directly to AFPC, cutting base personnel offices out of the process.
