Lejeune Marine dies in Kuwait

A North Carolina-based Marine died Saturday in Kuwait, the Pentagon reported Tuesday.

Lance Cpl. Chadwick A. Gilliam, 29, of Mayking, Ky., died at a U.S. base, but the cause is pending autopsy results, according to a Defense Department news release.

Gilliam was assigned to Camp Lejeune’s 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines. He was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, the release said.

The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit arrived in Kuwait on Jan. 1 for training at Camp Beuhring and its surrounding ranges. The MEU’s battalion landing team is composed mostly of Marines from 2/6.

No other information was immediately available.
