Army medical officials have signed an agreement with a South Korean hospital in Incheon to make it easier for those in the U.S. military community to receive health care there.
The 65th Medical Brigade signed the memorandum of understanding with Inha University Hospital on Dec. 18, according to brigade officials.
The agreement will mean "patient-friendly access to high quality health care," a command spokesman said in an e-mail.
The brigade now has agreements with 22 South Korean hospitals across the peninsula, allowing base patients access to special care that may not be available on base, officials said.
The South Korean hospitals must provide 24-hour access to English-speaking liaisons, prescribe only medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, provide necessary documents to Tricare to process insurance claims and provide other Western-style services, such as meals.
