The Corps is giving enlisted Marines another year to take advantage of an extension incentive that pays up to $20,000.

Through September 2009, corporals and sergeants have two extension options: $15,000 for another 18 months and $20,000 for another 23 months, according to Marine administrative message 682/08.

The following primary military occupational specialties are eligible:

Failure to complete the extended contracts, because of misconduct or “actions initiated by the Marine,” will lead to partial repayment of incentive bonuses, according to MarAdmin message 097/08. Marines who do not fulfill their 18-month requirement will have to pay back $27.78 per day of service not completed, which rises to $28.99 per day for the 23-month option.

Marines selected to staff sergeant, as well as those in the Reserve, are not eligible for the incentive.
