Symposium Prepares Sailors for Change
Symposium Prepares Sailors for Change
December 05, 2008
Navy News|by MC3 Coleman Thompson

NORFOLK - A symposium detailing the resources available to individual augmentee (IA) Sailors was held at the Navy Mobilization Processing Site on Naval Station Norfolk.

Because of the evolving policies and support services for IAs and their families, Sailors may be misinformed to the most recent processes and tools available to help them and their families prepare for such a dramatic change.

The symposium gathered senior leadership and command IA coordinators (CIACs) from several local commands to ensure that everyone knew the same information and could take that information with them to provide their future IA Sailors with a proper plan.

"The most important thing is that we are all on the same page and that we're not duplicating services," said Colleen Charlton, chief of services for Fleet and Family Support Center at Naval Air Station Oceana and Dam Neck. "The bottom line is, that we want the service member and their families to get the best possible service they can get."

According to Cmdr. Thomas Trotter, executive officer, Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center, Sailors may have a lot of misconceptions about the IA process and what it entails.
