European edition, Sunday, October 26, 2008

A U.S. soldier assigned to the 172nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team was pronounced dead at a German hospital Saturday after suffering injuries at home, according to a brigade news release.

The male soldier, whose identity won’t be released until family members are contacted, was taken to the Eschenbach City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., according to Capt. Stephen Short, a brigade public affairs officer.

Short said he had no other details on circumstances surrounding the death, which is under investigation by German and American authorities.

The 172nd is based in Grafenwöhr and is preparing to deploy to Iraq next month.
