An H-58C Kiowa helicopter was significantly damaged Monday in a rollover accident at the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School in Patuxent, Md., Navy officials said.

The two crew members — one flight instructor and one student — walked away from the accident at about 3:20 p.m. and were not injured, said B.R. Brown, a Navy spokesman.

The cause of the rollover remains under investigation.

The Navy does not have any H-58Cs in the operational fleet, but the training school has several. The single-engine, single-rotor aircraft is primarily flown by the Army and typically used for observation and light attack.

The incident was declared a Class-A mishap, meaning the damage is estimated to exceed $1 million.
