Pfc. Said He 'Snapped and Stabbed'
Pfc. Said He 'Snapped and Stabbed'
October 16, 2008
Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

A Fort Benning, Ga., Soldier accused of fatally stabbing another basic trainee told investigators he "snapped" and "wasn't thinking," a CID agent testified Oct. 15 at an Article 32 hearing.

Pfc. George D. McDonald, 19, quietly spoke with his attorneys during the hearing, which is a military pre-trial procedure similar to a civilian grand jury. He faces charges of premeditated murder, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a second Soldier in the May 19 death of Pfc. Rick Bulmer, 23.

Special Agent David Meyer Jr. testified via telephone that McDonald confessed to the stabbing during an interview. Meyer started asking him about his rank and birth date when the trainee began talking.

"He made various comments," Meyer testified. "He made comments such as 'I snapped, I wasn't thinking...' He explained to me that he, in fact, stabbed the Soldier."

McDonald had been reading in his barracks when he slipped a knife in his pocket and went to check on his laundry, the special agent said. The basic trainee couldn't tell him why he grabbed the knife before heading out.
