Pearl Harbor Survivor passes away, leaving words of wisdom
“I saw thousands of young men my age blown to bits. War only kills and destroys. War is no solution.”

“Let’s all people think of our past and try and make the world a better place for all.”

Roy D. Kelly was my oldest friend's dad, an influence on me in my youth, a lifelong Democrat and a great guy. He wrote the above words in his journal.

3. Here is a list of medals he got for his service
Roy received the following medals for his service in the U. S. Marine Corps:
Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation w/ ribbon bar awarded USS Tennessee for service in the Pacific, Good Conduct Medal, 1941-1945; Organized Reserve Medal, American Defense Service Medal (Base with Fleet clasp), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal World War II, National Defense Service Medal, Marine Corps Reserve Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star for service in the Philippines. Seven bronze stars for the following Asiatic-Pacific operations: Pearl Harbor-Midway, Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Marianas, Tinian Capture and Occupation, Western Caroline Islands, and Leyte.
