Local Swiftboating
Can anybody out there help me? I have a local democrat judge candidate who is being swiftboated by our the editor of our local newspaper. He recently wrote an op-ed piece that states our candidate never served in Veitnam. The local party has no real idea on how to deal with this. Can anyone point me into the right direction?

9. A big thanks to everyone
Thanks so much to all who replied.
His name is Mark Samuels. He is the editor for the Logan Daily News in Hocking County, Logan, Ohio.
We have a morning meeting every Monday for our Dem candidates to talk about what is happening in the week. At that point, Rick Wallar, our candidate for judge, had all his photos and documentations to take down to the paper. He is getting a lawyer and demanding Samuels be fired.
We've had problems before with this man and it is like a catch 22 in the area because it is the only local paper in the county and it is the best form of advertising in the area. And a lot of times, the damage has all ready been done to our candidates.
Also there are only a few younger members in our Dem party who use the internet on a daily basis so fighting this in the blogosphere is a mute point. The only way to contact is through mail or of course...the newspaper.
I absolutely appreciate all your advice.

Thanks for all you do.

2. Depends.
Did your candidate serve? If so, he should be able to produce his DD214 & really wouldn't need anything more than that to win a libel suit.

If you're in the right, sue & publicize the hell out of the lawsuit. A retraction on Page 17 won't be sufficient to set the record straight, nor will it be sufficient to satisfy the court that the damage has been undone.

4. Somebody needs to sue these assholes
The law is on the candidate's side if he can document his service.

The longer they go without being sued, the more they'll think the law is irrelevant and they can print whatever libel they want.

3. How about you get some of your candidates war photos,
take them down to Kinko's and blow them up to poster size and plaster them all over town. Maybe you could write something like newspaper lies across the bottom.

Just an idea.

5. Your Candidate calls a news confrence
With his DD 214 in hand prove the Replug a liar. Make him say he sorry in the same paper. If not let the people knew he will be sued ffor his lies. Have signs and posters with your Candidate calling for full funding of VA . Have veterans by his side. Take back the issues remeber the VA is now $3 Billion short take the veterans issues and push it down the other side's butt

10. Hey?!?
Of course he served...isn't it obvious in my letter. Did I mis-spell Vietnam and that is why you question me? Is your post absolutely necessary? This type of crap is why I rarely come to this forum but I really was looking for some help. If you have none...then what is your point.
