New law eases citizenship for military spouses
New law eases citizenship for military spouses
By Allison Batdorff, Stars and Stripes
Pacific edition, Sunday, September 28, 2008

So, when Yensi Bello’s Navy husband got orders to Japan, the Havana-born 25-year-old remained stateside to untangle some political knots.

On Friday, Yensi Bello became a U.S. citizen in Yokosuka’s Chapel of Hope, thanks to a new law that allows spouses of active-duty servicemembers to be naturalized overseas.

"I’m glad I did it," she said. "Now if my husband is sent overseas, I won’t have to stay behind."
