Study: Iraq War Vets Suffer Mild Memory Lapses
But Vets Also Have Better Reaction Time, Study Found

(AP) CHICAGO Veterans of the fighting in Iraq are more likely than other U.S. soldiers to suffer mild memory and attention lapses back home, but they also tend to have better reaction time, at least in the short-term, a study found.

The findings may simply reflect the normal changes that would be expected to occur as soldiers make the transition from combat to regular life.

But they could also signal more serious mental health problems down the road, said lead author Jennifer Vasterling, a psychologist and researcher with the Veterans Affairs' Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System.

The study involved 654 soldiers who took mental-function tests a few months before going to Iraq in mid-to-late 2003 and within three months after returning in 2005. The researchers noted subtle changes in their scores.

2. They are just faking it
just like they are faking PTSD. And more conservative propoganda, if they don't get killed in Iraq, they'd get killed in a car wreck here. And, they are all volunteers so they can just stop their fucking whining. A nutshell review of how "conservatives" support our troops.

4. "Conservatives" do not care
Loss of limbs, brain injuries, jobless vets. "Conservatives" do not care. They are cheerleaders and if a player gets dragged off the field for whatever reason just send someone in to take his place. "Conservatives" do not care about our troops.

6. I wonder...
if this might be closely related to the 1000 yd stare that most Nam vets developed? It tends to lend itself to a 'dead space' look on a soldier's face. At times, there can be also a 'zone out' that tends to work as some sort of survival mechanism that helps block out what 'bad' things are about to happen. Would this possibly be related to the mental problems that that the psychologists are reaching for in this article?

7. stare what stare oh you mean the one I still have
No Brother it looks like the helmets they are wearing put presure on the brain after a hit of a IED. Chet Edwards put out a letter to the VA about this. It seems brain injury is not being taken care of by the VA hell whats new there
