Air battle managers flock to $75K re-up bonus

High numbers of air battle managers are signing up for the $75,000 continuation bonus.

By the end of May, 76 percent of eligible air battle managers agreed to take the money in exchange for staying in the Air Force another five years. That works out to 56 of the 74 eligible managers. Another 38 managers will be eligible for the bonus by Sept. 30, the end of fiscal 2008.

The 76 percent take rate is close to the acceptance rate the last time large numbers of managers were eligible for the bonus — 2003 and 2004.

The Air Force offers the aviator continuation pay bonus to air battle managers who have completed their six-year service obligation. Managers who take the bonus get paid $15,000 annually for five years.
