Lt. arrested for allegedly pointing gun while driving

An Air Force officer has been arrested on charges of mixing drinking, driving and his handgun.

Second Lt. Joshua P. Vasquez of the 66th Comptroller Squadron at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., was arrested by Massachusetts state police Saturday night. Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Busquet said someone called police from their car around 11:20 p.m. to report that the driver of a silver Saturn Ion had pointed a gun at the caller as the two cars traveled west on Route 2 in Lexington. It is unclear whether the gun was fired during the incident.

Trooper Stephen Bigusiak and others performed a felony traffic stop of the Saturn a short time later and found Vasquez, the driver, to be intoxicated. Police also recovered a loaded Walter 9mm handgun from the vehicle, Busquet said.

Vasquez was arraigned Monday on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a firearm while intoxicated. Officials at the Concord District Court, where Vasquez was arraigned, could not immediately disclose what bail, if any, had been set.

Officials at Hanscom had no immediate comment.
