LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A judge in Louisville has taken the unusual step of unsealing the juvenile record of a man accused of murder as an adult so the public can evaluate whether homicide charges against him 12 years ago were properly handled.
Kenneth Eastridge is charged in the murder of fellow soldier, Spc. Kevin Shields, on Dec. 1 in Colorado.
Eastridge was convicted at age 12 of reckless homicide in the Louisville shooting death of his 12-year-old neighbor, Bill Bowman.
The Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville filed a motion, asking Jefferson District Judge Angela McCormick Bisig to open Eastridge’s juvenile file.
“While the 1996 case may not be relevant to guilt or innocence on the current charge, it is at a minimum alarming that another set of parents could have again lost a son based upon the actions of the very same individual,” Bisig said in an order issued Friday. “The nature of these facts scream for some type of evaluation.”
