FORT DRUM, N.Y. — A 10th Mountain Division soldier was killed by Fort Drum police during a domestic disturbance incident.
Fort Drum officials say a military police officer and a civilian officer responded to a house on post after emergency services received a hang-up call at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials say Staff Sgt. Dustin McMillen and his wife were at the house. They say McMillen subdued the two officers with a weapon, and then a second civilian officer arrived and heard a gunshot from inside the house.
Officials say that officer heard another shot after speaking with McMillen, then entered the house and shot the 29-year-old soldier several times.
McMillen was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he was pronounced dead.
