CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. — The trial for a Cannon Air Force Base airman accused of killing his wife is scheduled to begin Monday in a military courthouse.

Edward Novak II is charged with the Oct. 28, 2004, murder of his 20-year-old wife, Kimberly Novak, who was found dead in their home on the base.

The Novaks’ daughter, under the age of 2 at the time, was found alone in her crib. Military officials have said the toddler was found in unsanitary conditions and was malnourished.

Edward Novak, a former member of the 27th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, pleaded guilty last March to a charge of child abuse and was sentenced to 15 months in prison. He has been dishonorably discharged from the military.
