You ever play a sports game that you wish was real so it could be on ESPN Classic? Haha!

I was playing FIFA 10 last night and I picked two random teams. I honestly couldn't tell you the names of the teams today, I just know that I was playing as a Brazilian club team against a Belgian club Team. Neither team was rated very highly, I think both were rated 3 out of 5 stars. All game I couldn't penetrate the Belgian defense. I'd dominate midfield but couldn't get into the penalty area. I still managed to score late in the 1st half to tie the game 1-1 going into the second period.

The second period was a nightmare, the Belgians scored quickly to go up 2-1 and then I had a stupid foul which led to them scoring on a penalty kick, going up 3-1. They scored again in the 79th minute to go up 4-1 and the announcers were starting to do their "it's all over" calls. I decide I'm not going away like the Miami Heat and put in two subs, a fresh striker and a midfielder. I promptly score in the 81st minute, then I score again in the 88th minute to close the score to 3-4.

In all the times I've played the game, I've never had or was victim to a comeback in the last minutes, so I never heard before what the announcers and crowds do. Well the crowd started to yell louder. I really wished my roommate wasn't asleep or I would've turned the volume all the way up. The announcers started to say the game suddenly wasn't over and hoped that no one had left early, lol.

The Belgians kick off and I immediately tackle the guy with the ball to get the ball back, pass it to my fresh midfielder who I put it at the 80th minute and shred the Belgian defense. Shoot a cross into my striker and GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! The announcers go nuts, I'm going as nuts as I can without making any noise, LOL! The last 2 minutes of stoppage time was frantic as neither side wanted to give up a goal in the last seconds.


Then for overtime, FIFA 10 lets you choose the format, either 30 minutes that you have to play out, golden goal (AKA sudden death) or penalty shots. I chose golden goal and ended up winning 5-4. After being down 1-4 at the 80th minute. :wow: :woohoo:

Sorry for the inane vanity post, I had to talk about the best soccer game I've played so far.

1. I can't name a single moment but there have been many

Back in the early 90's, me and my buddy John were playing a lot of the same games and getting together weekly to do some co-op or competitive gaming... Depending on the game. Our competitive bragging, even on single player games began reaching the "oh bullshit" point when we figured out we could put the video through VCR players and record our sessions. That began the time of Fridays beginning with highlight tapes :D I really need to get a VCR or some other recording device so I can get some of my PS3 moments recorded to put up here :D

2. NCAA 04 (I think), BYU vs. Ball State

Picked random teams, like you did, and played as BYU (they were OK, not great at the time). Anyway, with about 1:30 left in the fourth quarter, I was down by 14 and receiving a kickoff. The stars aligned, and I took 98 yards for the score and XP, now down by 7. OK, now I need to recover an onside kick, a rarity in an EA football game...except this time, when it went perfectly. Two pass plays later and I'm in the end zone again, tie game, ten seconds left. I ended up winning by 3 in overtime.

3. Yes, although I was on the losing end....

and cussed a whole shit load when I lost...

It was NCAA 2001(with Weinke on the cover).

I was playing against a good bud of mine, he was using OU Sooners, and I was using the Washington Huskies. I was dominating the game in the first half, was up by 35 at half time. I was surprised my bud didn't give up, as I've beaten him numerous times before, but he kept on trucking.

During the 3rd and 4th quarters he made a come back, and we were tied with about 20 seconds left. I was in range for a field goal, but decided to do a short pass to my RB in the left side flat. I made the pass, my bud messed up the tackle with the CB, and I saw nothing but green in front of me. He didn't give up, one of his safeties came over, and I saw him behind me. I held down my run button, I was almost in the end zone and BAM!!!

He strips me, around the 5yd line. His safety picks it up, and I shit you not...with about 7 seconds left in the game, runs 95 yds the other way for the score, and win. I swear, not a single guy from my team was on that side of the field to make a tackle...

Wish I had that one on tape.

6. Well, it was an epic game

and a lot of WTF moments, the stripped ball was the king of all kings though, and to be honest, I was so upset I broke the game, no joke(snapped it in half). It wasn't my most stellar moment, but with so much blatant OU bias in that game, I had to destroy the evilness at the root.

I only got 1 NCAA game, and its NCAA 2001, I rebought back in 06 or so, for sentimental reasons, heck it only cost 2 bucks! :)

I got Madden 06, and NCAA 2001 for sports games...oh wait, I got a good handful of baseball games for ps1/ps2, those MLB 2001 types...

I really haven't enjoyed ps3 baseball games, but the only one I've played was MLB the Show 07, the one with David Wright on the cover, didn't like it. I don't like the fact that I cannot move my player around when he is in the batter's box, fixed position batting doesn't sit right with me.

7. I think The Show 11 is the best baseball game I ever played

I don't know if you can move the batter around but there are so many options. You have a choice of many camera angles and multiple hitting or pitching settings. For example with pitching, you can go with old school button pushing, meter, and the new analog pitching(which I think is pretty cool). You can even mix the difficulty settings such as you can make easy for hitting and hard for pitching. I personally go with "Hall of Fame" level for both and I feel like I get a realistic rate of home runs and strike outs for pitching. On the MLB 2K games I had to mess with sliders and either was too many or too little.

I think the graphics are great. The way the ball jumps off the bat is so impressive, especially compared to the MLB 2K games.

4. Mostly from NCAA Football 2009

I have in other games but for some reason it seemed that game was set up for spectacular finishes and epic plays and I played on Heisman level.

Before I go on these are basically high scoring games with great finishes, IRL I typically find lower score games to be great games because the high scores often mean bad defense for both teams.

When I first got it I played a few seasons with SMU (I like to start with one star teams and work my way up) and I remember one particular game against Tulsa. They scored one with 10-12 seconds left and I got the ball. I had all receivers going straight and I managed to hold the the joystick forward to lead the throw and push the throw button with the right amount of touch for a very long game winning touchdown.

After SMU I got a job at Arizona State and built them into a power. One season last game of the season I was #1 team in the nation facing off against Arizona. Since Arizona is almost always a 4-8 to 6-6 team on that game I probably took it easy. Arizona was up with timing running out and I managed to force a 4th down. With my running back that went on to win the Heisman Trophy(I had a few, my team always leads the NCAA in carries) that year as my punt returner, he is extremely fast. Before I go on, that game you can control how the defense reacts to you by the route you take to the end zone. It is hard to explain but if you go straight the defenders are running straight lines toward you, you run left or right they suddenly go east and west. If I do it right, I jerk from running a straight line and going diagonally. I keep the space on the outside of the other team open by doing this so when it gets to the point I can easily get around them and then I have a kicker to beat. I do the same thing to the kicker because he falls down (like a basketball player "breaking someone's ankles") and that is funny. Anyways I did this to Arizona and scored a game winning punt return TD with no time left.

Finally, and this was probably my best game ever. After winning 3 or 4 with consistent top 5 recruiting classes (the CPU recruited like an idiot on that game, I swear one time I saw USC with 5 or 6 QBs and most of them in the 90's or high 80's, they had a MLB that was overall rating 77 and not a freshman). I felt like I needed a challenge to keep me interested in the game. I decided to coach Colorado State and did manage to recruit a receiver who had pro potential based on his overall rating. I decided not to redshirt him and he would come very handy in this game I'm referring to.

It was one of the first few games of the season on the road against UConn. UConn was beating me the entire game, at one point in the second half I was down by at least 2 touchdowns. I managed to get down by 1 touchdown with under a minute left. I threw it to that receiver in similar fashion as my SMU-Tulsa game and tied it up to send into OT. We both scored in the first OT to send it into a second OT. I had the ball first and then I fumbled or threw an interception, I forgot. But I was like 100% UConn sure UConn was going to win. All the needed was a FG and they start possession at my 25. Plus I couldn't stop their offense the entire game. I was very tempted to restart, when I'm 4,5,6 star team I generally don't care enough about a loss to restart but I feel differently when I'm trying to build a team which was 2-star at the time. Anyways, I could not believe what happened. A couple plays later I intercepted UConn's pass and returned it all the way for a touchdown. I saved two of the replays for the ESPN Classic thing, this became my #1 "Classic" Game on the list and I played a lot of games at that point.

That receiver for Colorado State ended up winning the Heisman his Senior year which was my first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy and this was like my 18th season on that game.
