WAR - First impressions
Rolled up a zealot on Helborg as soon as it finished patching, and played about 9 hours yesterday. (Got to within 7k of lvl 8)

The dual targeting interface absolutely rocks! Play a pure healer, target and assist the MT, HoT him, DoT the tank's target and run thru your instas as they come up.

Soloing or when you get into a dps war with an enemy, target him and DoT, target yourself and HoT - spam insta heals and kite him. Takes a while, but very effective.

PvP quite similar to DAoC (which I loved).

Didn't fare well in the first PQ area, finished rather low in the rankings most of the time, but by lvl 6, did the 2nd PQ area quite effectively without playing a healer other than to myself. Ranked 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, and 4th in 5 tries. Got a nice purple dagger on one roll. I can see this class really getting fun by lvl 10.

Did well in instanced BG, there is a tome unlock for remaining alive 5 times with less than 5% hps left. :)

Not so well in open PvP...in a wg that were mostly 6-7 up against lvl 10's...even buffed by the game to lvl 8, you get spanked. A lot.

UI is a big buggy. Hard to keep up with healing when your group's bars disappear and reappear. I can see it when out of range, but it happened as well when fighting in one small area.

Overall, I'm impressed...looks like I have a new way to while away my evenings. :)

Look me up on Helborg.... Kzin

2. I haven't read the backstory, but I'm sure it's better than WoWs
They had a reasonably good storyline with DAoC, so I'm sure they did it up for Warhammer as well.

3. It sure does.
They have a great, detailed IP to play with for quests from the Warhammer universe. The Chaos quests are filled with intrigue, manipulation, backstabbing, and infiltration.

For example, yesterday for a quest I collected various poison plants, blended them together, added the resulting poison to some grain, sneaked into an Empire city, and tricked the starving populace to accept the grain I was so graciously sharing.

*pinky to lip* Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-vil!

5. Well I'm sold...just have to buy it...time to save up.
It looks like they only have Tzeench...shame about that...I'd be keen on playing Slanesh or Nurgle...

I guess that just leaves it up to the WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

4. Zealots are a blast, aren't they?
I'm toying with a Magus for now (yes, I LIKE underpowered classes, damni!), but I'll be playing a Zealot at release for our guild.

6. So far, so good...
Levelled the zealot up to 12 last night. Got from 10.5 ir so all the way to 12 and maybe 15% at one chapter 6 PQ in Ostland last night. Took about 3 houyrs total if that.

Spent the first of the night doing RVR . Quite a few kills (not many death blows, however). I love frustrating the Order forces...they can put 2 tanks on me and they still can't take me down for spamming heals...takes 3 or 4 of em usually to do the job.

Did roll up a DOrK and played it to lvl 3 in an hour or so. Nice dps for a healing class...might have to look into one further.

7. I'm a bright wizard
Complete with the "Bride of Frankenstein" hair.

I love the game.

You can PvP from level 1 and they have a mechanism where you can check to see what open groups there are in your area. That means you can play grouped if you want to but there is also so much zerg action that you also can solo if you are in that kind of mood. They have really thought through their DAOC experience and have improved upon it.

Public quests, to me, are a much more enjoyable way to level than solo quests where you waste time running around everywhere.

I'm a member of the Old Timers Guild (http://www.oldtimersguild.com), and the Order chapter is playing on Volkmar.

8. I was on Gladden in LOTRO, met a lot of OTG.
Nice folks, but they kept telling me to get off of their lawn... ;)

Do you know some of my former Arkenstone guildies (and ex-DAOCers) who joined OTG? Mario & Christie, etc.

---

I'm committed to playing a Zealot for our local Bay Area group of friends regular group, but damn it all if I didn't have a blast playing the Magus in beta. It's a gimpy, underpowered class (low-level squigs do more damage than my mid-level demon pets and the nukes just make people laugh), but it's full of utility and nasty AE DOTs.

I also had fun playing a Sigmarite, but I always felt like I was juggling 8 balls at once trying to keep people healed and do damage at the same time.

9. Those AE DoTs are the reason...
I kept levelling my cabbie in DAoC. He stank at PvP in skirmishes, but for keep defense he rolled up the kills. Peek over the wall, target someone close to the group banging the keep door, DoT and duck.

10. I did somewhat the same thing as a ManaChanter.
Except it was PBAE and much more fraught with peril...and excitement! :)

Between the snares and the aoe dots, I think I seriously upset some Order folks in last weekend of OB who thought their keep takeover would be a cakewalk. Is that wrong? ;)
