Any DS ownersin the house?
Just got the new DS "lite". Dual screens, oneof thema touch screen, plays both GBA and the new DS games. In fact the new DS cartridge is a regularflash chipand Nintendois allowing home-brew games to be burned on the blank cards. It features wirelessnet access and there'seven an Opera browser on the way. It uses ARM processors; one for playing game boy advance titles and an ARM-9 for the new DS titles.

Not as whiz-bang as the PSP but I'm pretty impressed with the thing.

Anyone else playing, and what games?

1. It looks pretty nice.
It's definitely got more horsepower than the GBA. There are some games for it that look very promising. I'm still more partial to the PSP though. Don't have one of those either, but I will likely buy that first.

2. yup, have one, love it.
got it as a gift, too. great system, amazing library. blows PSP library out of the water for me. the fact that it can play GBA, which also had dumbfoundingly amazing library, just leaves me with a smile. PSP does get stylish points for making such a pretty handheld -- but the good games is really where it's all about. that and the memory card $ and (essentially useless, imho. get a laptop w/ DVD people) movie feature also tends to price me out of bothering with tinkering w/ PSP. there is 1 game that makes me mourn the loss though, Lumines. but there's always the bargain bin in 5 years, right? :D

so, sounds like you are more of a specs/PC gamer than titles/game team follower gamer. but that's due to seeing an overwhelming amount of specs in your post. was there any particular genres you were interested in?

i'm still catching up on GBA games. you can rarely finish all your console libraries to your desires, i'm still working on my SMS fer cryin' out loud! :D lately my time has been sucked up by:
Animal Crossing
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (replay, it's a cute lil' romp)
"":Aria of Sorrow (replay, but quite easy)
Golden Sun 1&2 (great RPG series)
Breath of Fire 2 (cute, hasn't aged all that gracefully, but what does?)
Sprung (i found it cute and entertaining. i miss these type of games)

mostly GBA because i'm collecting them before they are whisked away from the market shelves. i really shouldn't say this, being a rabid collector and not really enjoying much competition, but if you want some fun action games i'd recommend the sequels to the benchmark, stellar titles from Treasure: Guardian Heroes, and Gunstar Heroes. they were blow-your-mind wonderful when they were on the Saturn and Genesis respectively. the fact that there's anything related to these titles again is a blessing, to have it portable is sheerly a gift from the gods.

3. I just finished the New Super mario Brothers (Rawks)
And currently playing Age of Empires.

As for the GBA titles, I've got Mario Tennis, Castlevania double-pack, and Zelda Minish Cap. Want to get Mario & Luigi all stars. I have a EB Edge card for buying used DS and GBA games.

Any other recommendations?

PS - If I was a tech spec freak, I'd have gotten the PSP. I'm all about fun gameplay, whiz-bang graphics be damned. I agree with you, re: PSP - just get a laptop if you want to watch DVDs on a portable game system. I like the ARM processors because they're underrated by most - I might be wrong, but they're more powerful than an old Intel 386. Plus they hardly use an ounce of power so the battery life is phenomenal on the DS.

5. well, this will date me, but i live for Super Dodge Ball
so i'm continuously keeping an eye out for Super Dodge Ball Advance. loved it when i first played it on the NES and arcade, still love it.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is out for the DS, another sequel to a damn fun strategy game from the GBA. nothing terribly deep or hard i'd expect, but enough to be great on-the-go TBS game (turn-based strategy, as opposed to RTS).

apparently, from rummaging around GameFAQs, there's a slated port of Europa Universalis 2 for EU and US markets. now, i've had my issues with that game, but the sheer fact it gets ported onto a portable that has all this interactive wi-fi features makes me giddy. i still wouldn't hold my breath until it's real though.

since i'm finding this "romance game" genre endearing and just nascent in western markets i'm probably gonna pick up Feel the Magic and Rub Rabbits to go along w/ Sprung. it ain't no Sakura Wars, but really, what is? :D

i'm curious about Trauma Center, a surgery sim. i remember some surgery sims back in the day (it was always fun killing off the patients! :D), so this new version w/ a stylus intrigues me.

Lost Magics, Trace Memory, and Lost in Blue all intrigue me as well. just a few to throw out there.

6. Phoenix Wright is supposed to be really cool
You play a defense lawyer tryingto get your innocent client off a murder charge. I think a sequelis forthcoming. I just bought another GBA game, Astro Boy Omega Factor.

Felt like getting a good shooter.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

4. I just bought mine today.
I've got a PSP, but their library is, to say the least, underwhelming compared to the DS/GBA library. I've held off on getting any DS games because I still have to finish my old GBA games. Those would be Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Castlevania:Harmony Of Dissonance, and Metroid Fusion. As for the PSP, I think I might just go ahead and sell it.

7. Brain Age and Animal Crossing
I'm playing those right now, also Brain Age is fun when you can spar with your friends, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is a really awesome game too. It was the first game in the series I've played, now I gotta go back and try the others.

Super Princess Peach is one of those games you'll try to avoid being seen with if you're a guy, but it's actually one of the best games on the DS. I love it, and ain't afraid to show it off.

Mario 64 is even better than the original Nintendo 64 version, 'tis really neat they can get that game on a portable system and have it work well.

The New Super Mario Bros. is well...just like the old mario brothers, just a little more flashy with more options. I liked Super Princess Peach better.

Metroid Prime Hunters is a little hard, but I haven't got that into it. If you don't Wi-fi much, I wouldn't get it.

Urbz: Sims in the City is like a Sims game but with a plot and not as many customizable features as the PC game. Actually it was quite unlike the PC games. For some reason though I've played it through several times and it's quite fun each time. I dunno why. Rent or find it for cheap.
