I JUST finally got my hands on Halo (for Mac)
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 10:36 AM by htuttle
Sure, I'm late to the party, but it was a very long wait for Mac users, given that we originally thought we were going to get first crack at this thing before Bungie was bought by the Borg. I'd given up on it, and didn't bother to buy it even after it's release. I'd not even thought about it for a few years, until I found a cheap copy locally this weekend.

Wow, it *really* reminds me of Marathon (I played all three to death years ago). You're obviously playing a very similar (Cyborg) character, and I swear they even used some of the same voice actors -- those short little piggy aliens say a lot of the same things that the "Bobs" did in the Marathon series). They way they say 'He's Everywhere!' is straight out of Marathon (where the Bobs yelled, 'They're Everywhere!'). I recognize that SPNKR rocket launcher from Marathon, too -- and yes, I made somebody pay with it. :)

The flow of the single player campaign (which I just started last night) also reminds me a LOT of Marathon's flow. In fact, remembering how Marathon's levels were laid out has been a big help so far. Also, instead of having to go to a computer terminal for AI advice, it's nice that she (it?) is right inside your own head now.

And I might be wrong, but a lot of those bad guys look very similar to the old Pathways Into Darkness aliens...

But hey, I like the Marathon references. Playing Halo for a few hours last night was like revisiting an old friend I'd almost forgotten about.

6. Ugh, Halo, Halo2
Half Life 2 is a much better shooter.

Apparently Half Life 2 can run on an Intel iMac running Bootcamp.

Bootcamp appears to be a much better way to WINE. I know, I know... it's completely different. Still... I wish linux could do that; I'd dump Windows entirely.

2. I thought about trying Halo
But when I moved to the Mac, my first shooter was UT 2003. So I guess the sci-fi angle make me think it's similiar. Though I'm not ehtusiastic about shooters. Sometimes, I'll log on to a Call of Duty game and tire of the blast & respawning after about 10 minutes. Though with goal matches, I enjoy those. Still slowly making my way through single player on UO.

3. If memory serves, the Marathon logo is hidden in the center
of the Halo logo.

4. What the... You're right!
I had originally poo-poo'ed your observation but after googling around I found this http://halo.bungie.org/logo.html. And there it was as clear as day.

Anyway. If Halo had been published for the mac as originally scheduled back in the day, I would have been all over it. Now... eh. I don't know. It's finally been ported and all, but I've sort of moved on, I guess, tho once in a while I have an urge to just buy it and see what I missed.

and there is a music clip from Myth (Siege of Madrigal) that you can trigger in the Halo level Assault on the Control Room, by flying to a structural support and standing in a certain spot.

I love Halo, mostly for the campaign. Looking forward to H3.
