TeamSpeak server available for DU gamers
I have a 20 slot TeamSpeak server that is being underutilized and would like all here to know that it is available for your use. There are only three of us using it two nights a week for BF2. Separate channels will be setup for your particular game/games. I have the server password protected for our use only so if your interested please PM me for details.
New to TeamSpeak or just need the free program download here is the link: http://www.goteamspeak.com/

2. do you know if there are lag issues with different time zones?
I have used net based voice comms and sometimes when Europe based players are on with N. Americans there can be a fair bit of lag even when everyone has good B-band connections. I can run a server myself but don't have enough interest to run it a lot and everyone thats likely to use it is based in the Northwest UK.

People complain that the sound quality of my connection sucks, then I explain that it's not the connection - it's my accent.

3. I can't answer your question
as I don't have any experience with overseas communication via VoIP. I rent the server so there is 24/7 availability and it is located on the US east coast. If you want to try it give it a ping http://www.fifi.org/services/ping for IP 64.34.166.43 and if you have the program installed test the server here http://www.zebgames.com/servers/voiceservers.php and click on Ashburn Virginia.
If you want to give a it a live test contact me and I'll crank up TS and connect or join us on our next Op.

4. How much to TeamSpeak and Ventrilo servers cost?
I don't have any games I regularly play online right now, but am starting to get the itch again... I don't have BF2 but have heard good things about COD2, and I'd be willing to check out the HL2 mods once I finish the game.

Starcraft/Broodwar is still my favorite online gaming experience.

Wife uses Ventrilo with her WoW guild.

5. I pay $7.00 per month
for a 20 slot server. Here is a link to the host I use with their pricing: http://www.zebgames.com/servers/voiceservers.php
I've played COD2 single player twice over and MP only once or twice and was not that excited about it. In SP the tank battles sucked but overall there is some pretty intense action.
I'm open to any suggestions regarding MP for COD2, HL2 or Far Cry.
Joining in with our DU BF2 band of brothers is about the best MP experience I've had. The only other MP game I really enjoyed was COD UO Base Assault.
Q4 is down twice now also so I think I'll be getting Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood soon.

6. All right, I'll get BF2. I met a programmer with Gearbox, which makes BIA
which I've heard good things about, had an interesting conversation with him. May check out that game too.

7. Be forewarned
BF2 is a resource hog. I didn't get really good/smooth gameplay until I went to two gig RAM. The game is still somewhat problematic, even after two patches, and we are currently awaiting a soon to be released, hopefully, cure all.

8. thanks for the info
i got an average ping time of 109ms - not bad but it might make speech a bit choppy - i think theres 250ms lag for a trans-atlantic satellite phone link i.e. bouncing signal from geostationary orbit twice. Unfortunately speech does sound a bit choppy at these lag times, it's more of an irritation than making comms unworkable.

Thanks again for the offer but I think I'll be sticking to a local server :(

10. I may be interested.
A teamspeak/ventrilo server for DU gamers is a great idea. I used to use Ventrilo extensively back when I played competitively. Been strapped with work and more work lately... so I may eventually join you guys... played the BF2 demo but never ended up buying the game. Do you play Day of Defeat: Source? Would be a good HL2 mod to look into.

11. I don't play DoD:S
but I just looked into it and maybe I will reinstall HL2, get DoD:S, and join you. I'll give you a shout when I get it cranked up.
Please do get BF2 and join in with us.
