Government officials praise boy’s campaign against Miracle Mineral Solution (UK)
A SCHOOLBOY’S campaign to ban a “miracle” health drink was hailed yesterday by UK Government officials after it was taken off sale in Britain.

Rhys Morgan, 15, highlighted the dangers of Miracle Mineral Solution to trading standards officials.

And the Food Standards Agency (FSA) yesterday said it had warned other European countries about it after Rhys’ campaign.

Hundreds of thousands of bottles were sold worldwide after makers claimed it cured illnesses including cancer and malaria.

But Rhys, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, wrote about the medicine on his blog, warning it was a dangerous bleach six times stronger than Domestos.

Users suffered agonising bouts of nausea and diarrhoea after taking just a few drops of the fluid.

Rhys, from Cyncoed, Cardiff, also lobbied the FSA, asking it to act over the US-promoted “miracle” sold over the internet in Britain.

FSA higher scientific officer Hefin Davies said: “The actions of Rhys have been very positive in bringing this to the attention of the authorities. The FSA has published a warning statement alerting members of the public to the dangers of consuming Miracle Mineral Solution.

“This warning was sent to the European Commission and circulated to all member states so they could take action. The agency is also identifying UK-based internet retailers and is working with trading standards departments to ensure the product is not available.”

Rhys said yesterday: “This is excellent. They’re really taking it seriously, which is good. The more action taken against the sellers of Miracle Mineral Solution, the better.”

1. Good for Rhys!
As a fellow Crohns sufferer, it can be a bit of a happy hunting ground for quacks. I have had it suggested to me that I ought to ingest some pig worms as a treatment. ('Nobody loves me, everybody hates me - going to the garden to eat worms!' - no I don't think so, thanks.)

But passing off a form of *bleach* as a remedy???

Rhys is obviously an intelligent and socially responsible person, unlike the promoters of this 'treatment'.
