Dr. Mercola sayz: Baking Soda Cures the Swine Flu!
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/12/15/Baking-Soda-Used-to-Treat-Swine-Flu-85-Years-Ago.aspx

"In today’s modern world of medicine the FDA just will not let companies that sell products make medical claims about them unless they have been tested at great expense, and approved as a drug. But this was not always the case.

In a 1924 booklet published by the Arm & Hammer Soda Company, the company starts off saying, “The proven value of Arm & Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda as a therapeutic agent is further evinced by the following evidence of a prominent physician named Dr. Volney S. Cheney, in a letter to the Church & Dwight Company:

“In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘Flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely any one who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.”"

Yes and we know that a book published in 1924 BY THE MANUFACTORER is credible science. Ugh. I wish someone could throw this slimeball in jail

2. I knew I should have come here.
You beat me to this story by more than an hour! And no one's here trying to say that Mercola isn't recommending people try this nonsense.

:)

3. I wonder if Volney Cheney was an ancestor of you-know-who...
certainly they seem to have shared a congenital inability to tell the truth.

6. Wow, alkalinizing your body
takes a huge amount of bicarb and the people who have done it successfully are all dead.

Somebody needs to stop this guy before he kills a lot more people.

7. Exactly.
The body maintains pH in a narrow range - if it didn't, we'd be dead. And no amount of acidic or alkaline food can change that. The pH of the acid in our stomach is between 1-2, and nothing we eat approaches that level of acidity. Hell if it did it would probably inflict serious tissue damage on the way down.

8. He didn't say "cure"! He didn't say "cure"!
Waaaaaah!!!

Because if you dance completely around the statement, and use the word "remedy" instead of cure, that's TOTALLY different than telling people baking soda will cure H1N1.

Colds are not infectious, but are a systemic imbalance. Namely, acidosis.

Same for the "flu", which he puts in quotes, since it's part of the same spectrum disorder.

Hey Mercola, you good with that?

13. We should base all of our medical treatment on 1920s literature!
