Another shameless uselss plug for (piggy) vaccines by big Pharm.
Let's just get this over with quickly, virus shmierus, vaccine schmaxine.

Can you believe this bald faced shilling. As if people really were getting sick?

http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/investigation.htm#general

Residents of California and Texas
CDC has identified human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection in people in these areas. CDC is working with local and state health agencies to investigate these cases. We have determined that this virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. However, at this time, we have not determined how easily the virus spreads between people. As with any infectious disease, we are recommending precautionary measures for people residing in these areas.

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
There is no vaccine available at this time, so it is important for people living in these areas to take steps to prevent spreading the virus to others. If people are ill, they should attempt to stay at home and limit contact with others. Healthy residents living in these areas should take everyday preventive actions.

People who live in these areas who develop an illness with fever and respiratory symptoms, such as cough and runny nose, and possibly other symptoms, such as body aches, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, should contact their health care provider. Their health care provider will determine whether influenza testing is needed.

Clinicians
Clinicians should consider the possibility of swine influenza virus infections in patients presenting with febrile respiratory illness who:

Live in San Diego County or Imperial County, California or San Antonio, Texas or
Have traveled to San Diego and/or Imperial County, California or San Antonio, Texas or
Have been in contact with ill persons from these areas in the 7 days prior to their illness onset.
If swine flu is suspected, clinicians should obtain a respiratory swab for swine influenza testing and place it in a refrigerator (not a freezer). Once collected, the clinician should contact their state or local health department to facilitate transport and timely diagnosis at a state public health laboratory.

1. well
One fucking moron already has decided that the swine flu is actually due to 3 vials of equine encephalitis that are unaccounted for at Ft. Detrick because you know..all the scientists at Ft. Detrick are really out to experiment their evil bioweapons on innocent mexicans and americans cause you know..the army NEVER EVER did any vaccine work..:sarcasm:
The amount of woo on DU will be more infectious than the swine flu in the next few months I'm afraid.

2. Interesting. The rate of spread
of conspiracy theories and alternative medical theories is exponentially directly related to the spread of the virus.

(crazy theory) ^2 = (viral spread in the community)X 1

The newest emerging theory takes into account media frenzy.

(crazy theory) ^2 = (viral spread in the community)X 1/ misinformed pundits X (bloggers)^3

4. I think people are frightened and overwhelmed and denial is a comfort.
We have probably become so inured to stress, that as a society, we would rather deny things than prepare, plan and understand.

The funny thing is,while on a scientific level I can understand the frustration of being the one at the sentry tower ringing the alarm and no seems to be listening, I can also see where people are coming from these days, namely, stress overload.

I just spoke to a nurse neighbor, who came to chat while I was picking up branches in the yard and she is on top of it, she went to the W.H.O website, which I will check later, as they seem to have more info. than the CDC.

As long as there are professional organizations monitoring this, as long as there is planning on a societal level, I am somewhat reassured that society is still functioning.

However, you are right TZ, the old arguments are always the same, arguing to prove a negative.

Since there was no avian flu related deaths, then prove to me there will be swine flu related deaths. Or prove to me that they will be pandemic proportions.

Well, gosh, everyone hopes it never happens, we hope to be wrong, but the concern that it may happen, the need to prepare exists, all the same.

I know the President of Mexico is concerned, he just canceled all public events for the next ten days, to keep people at home and minimize spread.

Then of course, the conspiracy theories start. The baaaad, CDC.

I recall reading about a young mother who contracted HIV from a transfusion, she developed AIDS, had a child who tragically was born infected. She refused treatment for her child and herself, as she was an AIDs denier.

The child died and she herself recently died. I read about it within the last few months, just by chance on some blog.

I wish to all that's good, that she had been right, that there was no AIDs, but, she was wrong.

Hang in there, we need voices that do speak clearly about the truth, as much as we can know it today.

:hi:

When I was in Egypt, bird flu caused a major panic and almost tanked the country's entire poultry industry.

Wonder if the person who said that can Google? This is only one story of many, I picked one from a Middle Eastern source:

Wednesday, 26 December 2007: Amidst WHO threats of H5N1 mutation, Egypt reports 16th bird flu death

CAIRO (AFP) -- An Egyptian woman died from the H5N1 strain of bird flu, the 16th person to succumb to the virus in Egypt, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

Oula Yunes Ali, 25, died on Tuesday after being admitted to hospital on Friday with a high fever, ministry spokesman Abdel Shahin said.

Ali was hospitalized with fever and respiratory problems after spending time in proximity to infected birds at home. Her family will now undergo tests to see if they have been infected.

It was the 39th case of reported human bird flu infection since the virus first appeared in Egypt in February 2006.

Women and children have borne the brunt of the virus due to their role in taking care of domestic fowl. A 10-year-old girl was the last person to die from the disease in Egypt in June.

I had no idea that VEE and this influenza strain were antigenically so similar that it's been misidentified! Good thing I had to get TC-83 for work so I won't get this gubmint induced plague. :eyes:

8. I was wrong.
It's more than crisis overload. :eyes:

I guess we just need sunshine vitamin D. :)

As advised by a practicing psychiatrist, to fight the flu and autism.

Not kidding. In fact, reduce all mortality rates.

9. At Dropkid's double-header
Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 12:30 AM by dropkickpa
little league season opener today, I was told it had to be terrorists making bioweapons. I just walked away before my head 'sploded. I didn't even try. It was quite hot and very sunny out and I apparently messed up and missed an oddly shaped patch of my forehead with my sunblock, so now I get to walk around like a freak with a red streak on my forehead until it fades. I blame it all on big pharma.

First it was the sky is falling, then, bioweapons, then VitD is the cure for the flu and now concern that the President may have been exposed, while down there.

Plese give this a kick it's actual *gasp* science from who and cdc info.
