I learned something today in the Health forum
Apparently, there's a clandestine society of wizardly nurses practicing healing magic in hospitals all across the country.

Fess up, Heddi!!! you're secretly one of them, aren't you?

1. I learned something in the parallel thread
It is OK to use the test subjects as the control group --AND-- All you really need is 3 test subjects. All those years of learning and working with stats and science and now I find out that it is pointless.

There is some really crazy stuff goin' on over there.

So you think Heddi is the mole?

21. They'd just LOVE that!
I swear, the willful gullibility of people amazes me. :banghead: They do it on purpose just because it pisses me off so much.

I WANT them to come and rub my rats, they'll get their hands bitten off. My guys like me and my staff and the PI's, but anytime a new person is introduced to their routine, they go apeshit. :banghead:

3. I had one of those aura balancers as an instructor
in nursing school. I just tuned out the woo and paid close attention to everything else because she was a fantastic teacher with a great knowledge base. She also had a very firm grasp of ethics, something she was able to impart to her classes.

As long as the woo isn't hurting anybody or used as a substitute for accepted practice, I give it a pass.

9. Let me make one damn thing very fucking clear
1) no nurse that I have EVER met---and I have met ALOT of nurses--has EVER used or believes in this "therapeutic touch" bullshit malarkey

2) Nursing practice is based SOLELY upon 'evidence based practice'. Meaning, we don't just do shit for the fuck of it. We do it because it has been tested, and it is proven to work.

3) There is NO accredited nursing school that either I or anyone I work with that teaches "therapeutic touch". None.

4) If I came across a nurse who employed Theraeutic Touch as a part of their assessment and treatment of a patient, I would have not one qualm about turning them into the state board of nursing. There is no proof that therapeutic touch works (or doesn't work). It's a bunch of horse-shit.

Now, when I was in school, we did learn about Theraputic Touch, but not this bullshit flim-flam bullshit bullshit that those woo's are talking about. Therapeutic Touch, as far as I and 99.9999999999999999% of nurses *I* know and trust know is holding someone's hand while they're dying. Giving a back rub to a bed ridden patient. Performing range of motion exercises on a patient that is immobile. You know, Doing things that are PROVEN to have THERAPEUTIC VALUES via touch. NOne of this laying of hands bullshit.

Lemme tell you one fucking thing: I don't have enough time in my 12 hours per day of work to get the shit that NEEDS to be done done. I sure as fuck don't have time to lay on of hands and redirect energy fields and chakras and bullshit like that, and any nurse who does 1) needs to be psychologically evaluated 2) needs to have their license revoked because they're obviously mentally fucking retarded and 3) needs to find something better to fill their time with like, oh, I don't know, TAKING CARE OF PATIENTS IN MEDICALLY PROVEN WAYS

this shit pisses me off and it gives my already misunderstood and undervalued profession a bad name. And these woowoo fucktards that say "oh, nurses are doing it and patient's dont even know" is a bunch of 100% pure grade a bullshit of the highest degree. I stand behind my statement that ANY nurse who does this should have their license REVOKED IMMEDIATELY. THere is no science behind this. NONE. NO SCIENCE PROVES THAT LAYING OF HANDS DOES ANYTHING AT ALL

gah. I'm in a pissed off mood now.....I need coffee.... :)

Thanks for the little rant! Some of the health woos remind me a bit of the fundies who oppose stem cell research and birth control: they place their ideology above people's real health needs.
