Can anyone identify these cukes?
We bought two cuke plants for our garden. They were both identified as Burpless with the same tags. They both look exactly the same with regard to leaves and vines. They are both producing well, but the fruit is different. One makes long, slender, deep green cukes like you see in the grocery store. The other makes short, fat, light green cukes.

So, what are they?

1. They look like a pickling cucumber to me.
Not sure of the exact name though.

2. To me, too.
Ms. OR plans to try pickling them.

Talking with neighbors it seems that sometimes what you buy from the little label stakes at the nursery isn't always what you get, but no worries. It's all good in the garden. The tomatoes are really producing.

3. the name for the best pickling cukes is "kirby"
They are smooth, paler in color, and more delicious than the long dark ones generally. That might be what you have.

4. Kirbys?
Those are the common pickling cukes. That's what I have growing. And, IIRC, it's almost univerally agreed over in C&B that these are the best eating cukes, too.
