For container gardeners like me:
Most of my garden is in containers again this year b/c

a) I really can't stand weeding
and
b) my local groundhog is SLIGHTLY more intimidated about foraging by my front door.

I'll be doing masses of basil and (probably sacrificial) extra tomatoes and squash in the ground, but the majority of our meals will be harvested from various containers.

Anyway, I found this thread on GardenWeb with some handy conversions of various pot sizes to gallons: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/banana/msg062231206611.html

Wish I'd found this last year when I just calculated by thinking "How many jugs of water could I pour into that pot?" :) -- though I think I did okay with that method too:
?

(Veggies at top of stairs near house. Please excuse grass in desperate need of mowing and slightly bedraggled end-of-season condition of things in general.)

1. We bought two Earthbox planters last year and were very happy with them.
We bought another one this year! :)

We do all of our gardening by container and keep everything on the deck. The groundhog is not our friend, and the deer will eat absolutely any plant in this part of PA (except the damn poison ivy).

2. Oy. Groundhogs and poison ivy. My two worst summer nightmares.
The PI made me break my organic vow and I was forced to Round Up a patch that was trying to grow up the side of my back porch. Hey, I TRIED the vinegar & salt spray method but it just LAUGHED at me and grew bigger.

Sorry, environment, but I can't have another bout of body-wide boils like last year.

3. My son had it so bad last year that he was on prednisone for 2 weeks
and wasn't allowed to go to work (he works in a medical equipment facility).

It was the strangest looking case I'd ever seen. It almost looked like a bad burn rather than the usual rash. Oh yeah, we sprayed the heck out of those plants! Nothing else works!

4. My daughter gets the "burn" type of reaction
she had deep craters on her legs and I never believed her skin would ever heal, but it did. No scars to speak of either. She was on prednisone for 3 weeks. It kept popping up all over. Miserable times. :-(
