Welcome to the tomato jungle
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 05:02 PM by bearfan454
I never would have believed it if I wasn't watching it happen every day. Some of my tomato plants are over 7 feet tall. I had Mrs bearfan take a pic of me standing by the garden. I'm 6'4" and the plants are taller than me. This is 11 weeks growth.

It's been close to and over 100 almost every day already. Some parts of the garden are burning up. I have to drown it every night.

The peppers like this heat but they need to get soaked every night too.

2. *drool*
That's great!! I hope mine catch up. I'm doing containers and having pretty good luck I think.

Already standing about 5 feet tall and bushy. I'm experimenting with pruning and love that the things are actually growing. A gazillion flowers are on them now that I hope will be delisious 'maters soon.

Thanks for the pics!

3. WooHoo....Nice Jungle!
What are you using to support these monsters?

What varieties did you plant?

Ours are only 2 - 3' tall now, but making fruit.
It is unseasonably hot & dry here (+8 above average, July Temps), and we're afraid that it is too hot for new fruit. The fruit that has set is ripening nicely, and we have blossoms, but are worried that it is already too damn hot.

4. I had to make my own cages
They're 3 feet in diameter and 4 feet tall. I used welded fencing wire. I also had to pound in rebar on all 4 sides so they wouldn't topple over when it rains. This year I have 8 Early Girls, 2 Old Germans, and 2 Brandywines. I bought 6 Sandia pepper plants and some asshole had switched the id tags. I only have 1 Sandia and I have 5 New Mexico Big Jims. That happened to me before with tomatoes too.
