I made prints of the thumbs, the explanations tell most of the story - first off though, I gotta show off my amazing tomato TREE!!

That's ONE plant!

Doing the garden was a whole lot more relaxing than making this post!

2. "so, how are the tomatoes?" - scrumpdeliishous.
.
.
.

I used no commercial fertilizers or pesticides - and the tomatoes are almost picture perfect - round with no blemishes and sweet, sweet sweet!

Still harvesting dozens a day, stew some, eat some as I pick, and freeze some. They are the wee cherry tomatoes, and over 300 per plant (the two Monster plants that is) so far, figure another hundred or so if I can keep the frost offa them.

Zucchini did quite well(outside garden) - all done now, got four pumpkins off two plants,(outside) two large (about 18" diameter) and two medium, about 10" diameter. some wee watermelons(inside) about 8" diameter, but sweet, and tons of cucumbers(mostly outside, roots seeded inside), just a few left to harvest inside the greenhouse.

Corn inside greenhouse and outside as well, outside did better(larger) but again SWEET! - can't get fresher than pickin' then cookin' right away!

Hanging tomatoe plants weren't as productive as in ground, but the sites I got the idea from used 20 litre pails, I used 10 litre pails -so only half the soil/nutrients available I figure.

BUT NOBODY DIED!

So I consider my gardens/greenhouse a success . . .

'specially for a newbie.

I envy you. You are right about the corn. Just last month I took some steaks to grill over to my buddy's house, and we popped off some ears and cooked them right away. Best corn I have ever had. Like you, he also does no artificial fertilizers or pesticides. I wish I had a bigger yard :(

3. What I like about the green house is that
it sounds like you built it for cheap, and it is so successful in producing an amazing tomatoe tree. It is kind of hard to comprehend the size.

5. Correction: - Tomato TREES(plural)
.
.
.

And yesterday, while outside temperatures hovered freezing, I harvested 8 dozen, taking 7 dozen to our local food bank. Still many dozens more left about 2 dozen ripe for picking.

And yes - I built it cheap - only bought the 2x4s and 2x6's, about 50 bucks worth.

Better yet, the wall glass are thermal panes - heat is from about 150 watts of light bulbs, but over 400 litres of water in black pails absorb heat during the day on the south side.

Some thermal panes were from the landfill, while others came from a renovation job I happened by that was redoing their windows.

Pails were mostly from shops - old 20l. hydraulic oil pails , lightly washed with laundry soap after wiping residue out.

Lotta work, but little $$

I figure close to 500 tomatoes per tree!

I'll be adding pics to this thread, one with snow on the ground! when I get my present film roll done . .

7. MSN account is dead now, but ask away - I DO think I know how I managed this
.
.
.

I was working "out of the box" as some might say

not using conventional methods,

just what I "felt" was right for my plants.

I attended them every day: water, pruning supporting, fertilizing with old woodstove ashes, eggshells, and urine -

and more I'm not gonna mention here

BUT IT WORKED!

I had no idea that it would be this successful.

Neighbours that have grown gardens for decades were amazed at my success

SO WAS I!

But now I have a method,

Unfortunately, I have to move from this place,

But when I get my own place, you can bet ur bootie that I'll be growing stuff like crazy again!

I'm just over a year from getting my pension

I know what my main hobby is gonna be ..

Growing FOOD!

yummm
