Scarlet runner beans. My new favorite.
They weren't eaten by slugs like my regular bean babies were. The tripod is covered, had red flowers all over it and many many 9-12 inch long beans. Some are developing beans inside, but am trying cooking them tonight in the pod as they are edible raw (just tried some) once you get past the fuzziness. These are great!

Well growing, beautiful, productive, what more could I want? Oh yes, tasty raw, hoping the same for cooked.

I would've harvested them as young beans but was gone for that part of the growing season, now have foot-longs. Very cool.

1. I have some!
Mine are just making beans -- about 2-3 inches long. Our June was crappy weather, so we got a late start. I just ate one of them raw today, and it was tender and delicious.

How many days from tender bean until they actually grow shell beans? I may have to start eating these before that happens, if the weather goes bad.

They ARE beautiful!

2. Mine started making tiny beans a month ago, aren't quite to shelling stage
The foot long ones I cut and steamed and they were great. They needed more cooking than tender young baby beans, but weren't tough once they cooked, weren't mushy either. I hope I left a few big ones to try and get some shelled beans from.
