An exercise in understanding ourselves spiritually
Edited on Fri May-01-09 12:21 PM by I Have A Dream
How well do you know yourself?

If you had to make up an archetype or Tarot card that describes you spiritually, what would it be? I'm not necessarily asking for an existing archetype or Tarot card; feel free to make it up! :)

I'll start. I'd say that two for me are The Example and The Candle. For a very long time, it really bothered me that I didn't have more "metaphysical" abilities. I would constantly ask the Universe why I wasn't more psychic, able to see things, manifest things more easily, etc. Repeatedly, the answer that I've gotten is that I'm not here to have all of the bells and whistles this time; I'm here to show regular people what's possible for a regular person to do if they live their lives with integrity and put in the extra effort. (This applies not only to spiritual things.) Because of this, I feel that the Universe expects me to live a life that is ethically impeccable and beyond reproach. (Of course, I don't always succeed... :()

The Candle follows the same theme. If I were The Beacon or The Lighthouse, most people would not think that things that I do would be possible for them to do. Because I'm an ordinary person, people realize that they also can do whatever it is that they see me do if they truly want to do it.

Who's next? Please don't be modest. :D

(On edit: fixed typo.)

1. Cool thoughts - I like your archetypes!
I would have to say I am a "guide" - pointing the way, kind of like a sign on the highway. Go That Way ------>

Also probably a crystal, I pick up all the frequencies and clean them up or broadcast them sometimes too...

2. What a fun game!
On the plus side, I'd say I'm The Magnifying Glass, as I can analyze the heck out of something and see small nuances--and help others see them as well. I'm also The Watcher, because a lot of times I hang back and observe a situation--others end up jumping in first. But once I'm in there I'm like Velcro. Lastly, I'm Groucho Glasses; I can plunk 'em on just about any subject.

On the negative side, if I don't keep my shield up, I end up being The Dartboard. I have had people accuse me of the most incredible things that I had nothing whatsoever to do with. I'm still trying to suss out what in my nature makes people see me as "the bad guy" and perpetrator of a (figurative) crime even if I was (also figuratively) thousands of miles away at the time.

17. Yes, I've noticed the positives that you've stated about yourself.
I also remember your stories about the negative. :( I hope that you're able to overcome the latter so that this no longer occurs; you deserve better, MG.

Thank you for sharing.

18. Maybe an owl?
That would take into account your wisdom as well. (At least the stereotype for the owl is that it's wise.)

Don't forget your gift of humor as well.

I keep taking in the information and deciding what it all means.
The next step, of course, is getting out of bed.

Hey, the way the world is today, one barely has to get out of bed anymore.

Cheers back at ya, my friend. :hi:

just goes to show that we in the group don't know everything about each other. I'm surprised that you describe yourself this way. Very nice! There's more for me to get to know of you. :D

All I know is that I like your energy.

6. I think I am diamond.
I am strong as the very bones of our earth, and I am capable of cutting thru just about anything. I can take a polish if you work really hard at it, and I CAN be worn down with time.

Not everyone sees my value, mind you, and that is ok too.

B-)

7. This is a fun game! I love seeing what people wrote for themselves
Once upon a time my card would have been The Empath, absorbing other people's pain and feeling it for them so they don't have to, like that woman in an old episode of Star Trek. But I think I have grown out of that.

My son would say my card is The Nerd, always working and whining about it.

I'm not sure what I would say for myself now. Anything I come up with feels too egotistical, too kind to myself. I'm not archetypal enough. ;-)

Maybe that's my card: Confusion. Or Multiplicity. That makes sense.

22. Go with your first thought! Don't be modest. It has no place in this game.
:)

You are an amazing being of light and love. You shine very brightly to me.

Personally, I get for you amazing strength -- a rock. Also, someone who greatly appreciates stability. As a rock, you need a stable foundation to be at your best and most comfortable. When you have this stable foundation, you can do great things.

Am I far off?

8. I am
not sure how I would describe myself spiritually. Peace is a large element of this, as is patience and determination--and trying to get the balance right so that things do come to fruition. As a person, I've always been a helper, one who wanted to aide others in getting things done, always a group effort rather than something solo. So what Tarot card would fit? I'm not all that familiar with them.

27. I never knew this ..
The Strength card was originally named Fortitude, and accompanies two of the other cardinal virtues in the Major Arcana: temperance and Justice. The meaning of Fortitude was different from the interpretation of the card: it meant moderation in attitudes toward pain and danger, with neither being avoided at all costs, nor actively wanted.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Arcana

I see Ayesha as much more *feminine* than the Justice card. But a blend of Justice and Temperance sounds just right!

The Strength has a Leo association, which apparently balances her Aquarius sun sign?

That's you for me. The Light. You're currently working to pull all the colors together into one so that you shine a pure white light. You're so close right now. Once it finally happens, it will help all of humanity rather than just yourself.

I prepare the soil, plant, water, nurture, weed, and if I'm lucky, harvest. Oftentimes things get screwed up along the way, but I keep trying and, hopefully, learning to do better. And sometimes the bugs win. :7

12. After careful consideration here's my interpretations
In Nature I am like a river, always flowing, sometimes calm, sometimes still and stagnant, sometimes an upheaval of energy that doesn't realize how powerful I can be, with strong currents riding along until I reach the "main collective" the Ocean where upon I join other souls.

I also think of myself as the wind, sometimes still and stagnant, sometimes mildly blowing my energy to caress my surroundings, sometimes tornado spinning out of control engulfing everything in sight with disastrous results, and sometimes a whirlwind of activity dancing and skipping along on the Ocean.

As a Tarot card I relate to the Hermit, finding my own light and sharing the light among like minded individuals, going inward, resting in my own center, and one who is a wise guide

I do try and make my art accessible to everyone here. I have been trying to accomplish some more artwork that focuses on traditional mediums. Not having money lends oneself to try and find creative ways to make things work using what I have on-hand. I've always loved being creative but sometimes I fall short of my potential, but I'm working hard to change that about myself.

Thank you for creating this thread it definitely gave us all an opportunity to evaluate ourselves and reflect on your question. It also gave us insights into what we think of ourselves. You definitely are a beacon of light.

31. a couple of things come to mind.
I sometimes reflect what people are going through and vice versa so being the mirror would be one. One of my functions seems to be looking at things with an eye to improving them, so something like editor comes to mind. And, since I spend time taking care of household tasks and doing things that support my wife having an easier life, another of my primary aspects has to do with service.

:D

33. This is very hard
If I just focused on your question without looking at the word "spiritually," I would have said my archetype used to be Advocate but now am changing into something else, perhaps Communicator.

If I include the word "spiritually," I can't describe myself as I used to be because I wasn't spiritual. My being an Advocate was at least partly based on the assumption that this material world is all that there is. As for the present, I would say I'm a Seeker, still trying to figure out where I fit in the matrix or what my soul purpose is. I hope not to remain a Seeker but to find something that describes a state of being, instead of seeking.

I hope this makes sense.
