I got to thinking, the Republican Party IS the Collective Ego
it' that simple. Denial, denial, denial, projection, projection, projection.
It is so sad that they'll go down with the ship (and drag the rest of them with us too) to defend their ego.

It's that simple: Democrats may not have all the answers, but we try, and we DON'T WANT BABIES to starve.
Republicans: "I got mine, go get yours"

That's how I see it. And it sure feels accurate.

Your thoughts?

1. I'd add to that, they'd like to be the collective ego. They fall way
short of that label, thankfully. These days they cling to the absolute worst of humanity, they appeal to the base or the lowest in the collective ego.

I find the new Glen Beck & his new found "Alex Jones" type persona to be very telling about where the GOP is looking to expand and how desperate they've become, who they are trying to reach, the "conspiracy" edged, the libertarians, etc.

What they are getting is an angry conglomeration of the lost. Even the groups they seek to attract are more discerning...they are wearing their desperation with the tactics they use. The FEMA camp scares are so telling...bait and switch...fear and smear...it's the worst of the worst.

They have become the contrary party, conservatism has long been dead in the GOP camp. They offer no alternatives, but they are against every solution.

2. While I agree that they are selfish as a whole,
here's another thing about them that I have witnessed over the decades. "I got mine" is usually obtained by taking from others as in other people's money.

I have a BIL (big Limbaugh fan) who talked his parents into refinancing our house (we were renters at the time, during Reagan's term) to start a security company. Long story short he never paid all the money back. This is while he boast how much money is wife makes and how much savings they have. He used his dad like a slot machine. After dad died he doesn't have much to do with his mom, because he can't take advantage of her. One last thing about him, he wanted to be known as "the KING"

Now expand this behavior to the rest of the republicons and you can see that they make money by using people to take their money: OPM

Robert Anton Wilson calls it "The Anal Emotional Territorial Circuit"

3. This post says it very well:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=5532130&mesg_id=5532260

"When it comes to politics and money there are two kinds of people

It boils down to one thing. When someone makes a decision about what to do what do they base their choice on? Invariably a Republican will make the choice that benefits him/her first. Even if the choice hurts others. Their question, when asking themselves what to do is, "What do I want?"

On the other hand the other type of person will always consider what is best for all involved. The question they ask themselves is, "What is best?". Democrats tend to do this kind of decision making.

Think about it. It really is that simple. That's why Republicans think social programs are bad. Because they're for everyone and they really are based on what's best. Republicans only want what they can get personally and that which makes them superior. It's what they want that counts because then they can have it all and not have to share it which happens when it's done for the best. "
