Adventures with my Quartz Crystal
A few weeks ago I found one of my QC's in my jewelry making supplies I had forgotten about, so I decided to get it out and use it for a pendulum. I had already done the wire wrapping when I rediscovered it, so it was only a matter of hanging on a chain. I put it on a short chain and crocheted a black pouch with a blue sapphire button closure to keep it in. I would carry it to bed and put it at the headboard while I slept, upon waking I would carry it with me wherever I went.

A couple weeks ago I took it with me to Walgreens while I shopped for supplements. I got home and it wasn't in my purse. I panicked and went out to my car, (since I noticed I had left my cell phone in it when I finished shopping before heading home) it wasn't there. Again, my panic arose to a higher level of anxiety. I got the flashlight and my purse, ready to drive back to Walgreens to see if anyone had turned it in, however, I figured that it would be gone forever. But when I got in the car and started using the flashlight there it was stuck in between the passenger seat. I thanked the Cosmos for the blessings it bestowed upon me and my Crystal.

I decided at that point that perhaps I should find a chain to wear around my neck. I put it on a plain silver chain, nope, I didn't like the looks of it (chain to short) I tried it on a Y chain with Austrian Crystals, nope the crystals were scratching my neck (prong settings), I found another Y Austrian Crystal necklace (this one didn't have prong setting) after searching for the perfect necklace. Yep, this WAS the one I would use. It felt GOOD.

I went to bed wearing it and the QC fell out of the wire wrapping and the QC was in my bed, ARRGH, I tried putting it back in worked out for a little while and then fell out again. I tried to re-wrap it using copper wire, nope it wasn't working out either.

I then decided to check to see if there would be a problem with using polymer clay as a cap to the top (as the top is rather uneven and ragged) I found some sites that were using polymer clay. So, yesterday I woke up with the task of making a cap that I could then use copper wire to wrap it with, I used an extruder gun to make a snake of clay, but it turned out not to be thick enough. Oops it broke after baking, it broke where I had made two loops hanging down where I could add the copper wire, one loop broke, then the bezel I made from the clay (before it broke I glued a jump ring to it to add support) but it didn't work. Frustrated I pried the clay off and started all over again. This time I add the jump ring into the clay before baking and added more clay for support through the jump ring. I baked it after baking and cooling I used my mica powders to add an iridescent blue/red to it, I had some clear nail polish that has holographic stars so I painted on a thick coat, waited for it to dry and then added another coat of just plain clear polish and it looks so beautiful. I've decided not to add any wire to it. It seems stable enough on its own.

I used it to see if it would still respond to questions and it appears to be working.

What an adventure this has turned into, but it was worth it.

Namaste

:loveya:

4. I've had it for a very long time
I can't even remember when I got it, but it has been waiting for me to find its purpose.

2. with all that intention you put into it
It will do a GREAT job for you. That is a very cool story. I had not thought about wrapping my own crystals.

5. I've wrapped several crystals, but this one was problematic
But not anymore. I think it likes its new look.

I'm planning on going to pick some more up this week at a local Metaphysical shop. Hopefully I'll have a good selection to choose from that will be a bit longer than the one I currently own, but I'll still keep this one close to my heart.

I have some before pics with the wire wrapping and need some with its new look. I'll try and post them later today or tomorrow. I also have some pics with the pouch I crocheted for it.

 MM! Don't some jewelry findings just have a mind of their own?! I had a crystal merkaba that I wrapped that gave me some issues, but the worst was a charm bracelet with a single charm on it--no matter how many times I crimped the ring, the charm (a small pewter oval with an inspirational word on it--"create") kept falling off. But I kept finding it again, in odd places. Until one day it disappeared for good. Then it occurred to me I might need a different inspirational word. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, reached into the plastic bag, and came out with "inspire". At the time I was relearning how to "breathe" as well as "inspire", so I had a good laugh at the way the Universe communicates, attached it to my bracelet...and it hasn't fallen off. Not once.

On edit: For future reference--I found a great smooth-surface glue at one of the craft stores around here: Aleen's Glass & Bead Platinum Bond. Great stuff for jewelry and toys, too! :D

6. I've started using double split jump rings with most of my jewelry and charms
I have a lot of charms hanging from my purse. The double split jump rings work really well, so far I haven't lost anything.

Sometimes it takes inspiration to be creative. Perhaps that was your subconscious trying to tell you something with a little nudge from the Cosmos.;)

I use Aleen's "Tacky Glue" works extremely well, I also use Bond's 527, however, it was taking the dye off my glass beads when I used it, so I switched to Aleens glue, it works better. I string beads and glue them to boxes, ornaments, and preparing to bead some masks I made out of recycled paper. I'll have to look for Aleen's Glass and Bead Bond, it might be more appropriate for jewelry designs.

I have a Lapis ring that the stone was falling into the void on the back, I would push it back up to the surface again, but I over did it and it popped out the top, I got Aleen's glue out and reattached it, and totally filled in the back with the glue, hopefully that will hold it in place for a long time.
