Houston astrologer makes Oscar predictions
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/6273324.html

snip:
Her predictions this year are based on a list of astrological vitals. First, McCord did a chart for the awards ceremony: 5 p.m. Feb. 22, 2009, in Hollywood, Calif. Then she made a chart for each nominated person’s birthday and each nominated film’s first release date, which would determine their sun (which she describes as “the captain,” or main personality), rising sign (the assistant, or “first mate”) and moon (“your feelings and your emotions and your past”).

Finally, she compared each of these nominee charts with the Oscar-night chart, looking for positive or negative aspects and such key indicators as the “part of fortune” — a piece from Arabian astrology that covers worldly success. She paid especially close attention to any celestial activity at the mid-heaven, or high point, which would herald a most excellent evening in the Kodak Theatre.

As I do not really know the ins-and-outs of astrology, I don't know what to make of her predictions, but its an interesting read!

1. Thanks

I've just seen a few of the movies this year, but today just saw "The Wrestler", which I thought was just an amazing movie with fantastic performances. I wouldn't say it was uplifting, though, LOL.

Anyway, that whole article did make for interesting reading. Thanks so much for posting it.

2. It sounded like she put in a whole lot of work into her charts
and comparing them. I don't know if I agree with her picks: Sean Penn over Mickey Rourke. While I haven't seen 'The Wrestler' yet, I can't help wanting Mickey Rourke to win tonight. I know Sean Penn gave an amazing performance, but I have a soft spot for Mickey.

5. Keith Ledger wins supporting actor
All of punditry might call it otherwise, but one thing seems clear to McCord. Heath Ledger, an Aries with a Cancer moon — a sensitive pairing, “so maybe that’s why he was so fragile” — won’t be winning any posthumous Oscar for his übercreepy Joker. “Astrologically, I don’t see it.

6. Looks as though she only got one correct: D'oh
I'm glad Sean Penn won, I was hoping that Brad Pitt would win, but I wanted Penn to win.

Slum Dog seems to have swept up a lot of the Oscars.

I was so hoping that Peter Gabriel would win best song but he was up against two Slum Dog tunes :-(

7. A travesty. Slum Dog's music took it down several notches.
Some was uncomfortably mis-placed. And yes, I'm a fan of Bollywood soundtracks (have purchased a few).

Great love story, however. Just not quite as completely anthemic as they wish to present it...

8. I liked the Slum Dog tunes, but I just wanted Gabriel to win soooo badly
I've always been a huge Gabriel fan, and I love Bollywood music as well.

9. I love Gabriel too

I really believe that he and I are of the same soul group though we've only met cursorily.

We sing in exactly the same key.

It's strange and propbably harbors from Elizabethan times. It's odd.

best,

11. Years ago when he played at small venues here, we would get right next to the stage
It was so amazing to be that close. The crowd would be clapping along to the beat, while I always clapped in the offbeats Tony Levin would notice it and he would nod his head at me and smile. It was awesome. I have one of Tony's bass guitar picks from one of the shows we saw way back when.

Then they started playing arenas and not managed to get that close again, but the stage productions got better just from the budget getting bigger.

10. I confess I didn't even watch the Oscars this year
Haven't seen a single one of the big pictures. (Oh, well, yes, Tropic Thunder, hee, hee.)

Doesn't look like her predictions were too accurate. But I'm thrilled to see that Sean Penn won!
