1. explanation for winking out
Here's a link to a video my brother sent me. It is a physicist explaining alien technology.

It explains the "winking out" technology. It introduced me to the concept that the aliens who travel to see us are a genetically designed "explorer race."

The visuals in this video are fantastic!

p.s. I also heard or read that it takes one of the types of aliens the equivalent of 70 minutes to get here. With that kind of travel time, no wonder there are so many sightings of them here.
