Obituaries rarely capture the essence of an individual who has passed on, but one day I came across one that moved me to tears, even though I had never met her. Her name was Eve, and in her story I found a kindred spirit, similar also to many wonderful women I've known.
I saved her obituary, and stuck it in my Mandala, although I could never say why I did this. There it remained for ten years, until recently - when it fell out of the book three days in a row. I feel it is time for me to share what they said about this woman I never knew.
Here is Eve's obit:
Born August 18, 1948, and left this earth on January 23, 1995, Eve was the oldest of eight children, and one of the first hippies of the 60's, her long flowing auburn hair and striking green eyes were a wee reflection of the beauty she brought to Earth.
Born a free spirit, she never wavered from her rocky path. She loved and embodied beauty, she loved flowers, music, sunsets, fishing, babies, old people, her children, and art. Her macrame was a celebration of life.
Eve, first-born, trailblazer, mother, sister, your adventurous spirit will be missed - though the essence of your love and aura will carry us through.
Eve, thank you for for living, thank you for touching the hearts of those who never knew you, thank you for being the remarkable person who brought so much joy to those who knew you. Thank you, Eve.
