Dr. Perry Buffington. Amazon link to one of his books that I like: "Cheap Psychological Tricks." 'S fun. Accessible and very informative.

I just ordered two of his other books, "Cheap Psychological Tricks for Lovers" and "Your Behavior Is Showing: 40 Prescriptions for Knowing and Liking Yourself Better." Can't wait.

1. IT's nice that there's an excerpt of the book at the link that you can read.
Thanks for letting us know about them, BI.

2. I'm chuckling at the title
clever.

I liked the subtitle, too. Because it doesn't always work out like you think it should!

3. Despite the er, cleverness of the title, the CPTs are GOOD. It was written by a reasonable, ethical
but also realistic person.

Here's a cheap psychological trick that almost always works for me: if you're trying to fall asleep, try to stay awake. The effort you will be putting into staying conscious should tucker you out enough to go under. The trick relies on a priciple called paradoxical intention. Very cool.

4. thanks, I'll try that. Here's one for earwigs
About two months ago I had the worst earwig ever. It would not go away no matter what!

So I told myself at the top of the hour I would have to sing it in my head and improvise on it, too. Then whenever it would be going on in my head, it was full steam ahead to the improvised version. Eventually it was so "rearranged" that it barely resembled the real song! I "transmuted" it!

Cher

p.s. BI, maybe we need another thread for "cheap psychological tricks." :)
