Hi, everyone,
I am on vacation and thus have time to do some pleasure reading. Among the many books I am enjoying is Lisa Williams' memoir, Life Among the Dead. I know many here enjoy Lisa for her positive, upbeat personality and for her incredible psychic talents. That is why I decided to start this thread and post interesting tidbits from the book as I read.
Of course your comments and questions are always welcome!
Lisa's book has pictures! Yes, pictures of her as a child, teenager, and young adult. As a child she has that same sweet smile that she has today--it's just a bit toothless! :)
In the first chapter, Lisa talks about her very first experiences perceiving the souls who have passed over. She is only three but she sees them floating in and out of the walls.
It is little wonder that Lisa displays the remarkable talents that she does: she has psychics on both sides of the family! In fact, her maternal grandmother actually was quite a well-known psychic who traveled around the world giving readings. She was known within the family as Airport Nanny. Even when she was home, her readings were so sought after that people would stand in line and the line would wind around the block.
From the book: "Airplane Nanny was glamorous... She had her hair done every week, loved jewelry, and really loved to laugh. She had a wild, almost bawdy laugh, and when she started you couldn't help laughing too--even if you didn't understand the joke. "She always had the best phone, or the latest answering machine, or the newest VCR..."
On her father's side, nanny Josie read tea leaves and "often spoke of odd visions, vivid dreams, and strange sensations."
Luckily, however, Lisa's paternal grandmother liked to bake her cakes, play games with her, and make lovely dinners. In fact, as I read about Lisa's childhood, it seems very normal. She had a best friend who admired and encouraged her with her psychic gifts. She had summers away from home where she met other kids from all over. Her family often visited and she got to play with her cousins outdoors. While her psychic gifts often made themselves known, she was not interested in them or in developing them further. She was interesting only in being "normal," something I'll bet we can all understand.
Her favorite sandwich as a child was cheese--not grilled, just cheese with horseradish and the equivalent of our mayo.
That's it for now but I will post more later.
Oh, one other thing--surprisingly, Lisa's grades weren't good enough to get her into college, where she had wanted to study to be a teacher or musician. Consequently, she pursued a career as a physical fitness instructor in area gyms, resorts, and the like. She is quite ambitious, one can see, as she moves forward to get the kind of position she would like.
