Any help with this dream, please?
I had a dream this morning that I can't shake and I can't figure out what it means. It was brief, but it was powerful and disturbing.

It was dusk and the sky was beautiful -- dark blue with a slight sunset. From out of nowhere, a duck engulfed in flames flew past me in pain and frantically trying to get away from the fire (which only made it worse). Another duck followed. And another. I was so upset because they were flying over a lake and there was no way for me to tell them to just dive in the water and save themselves.

The end.

What the heck does that mean?

1. The first thought I had
was "There are none so blind as those who will not see".

What a powerful dream. Could this reference be to the American public at large?

I had another thought, but it has escaped me.

What do you think the dream meant?

3. I think I was watching someone self-destruct
and I wasn't supposed to be able to help them. They were supposed to figure it out for themselves. (I've been thinking about it all day.)

By the way, they were mallards. (I couldn't see that in the dream, I just knew it.)

2. They fear becoming extinct as a species.
Their migration patterns are being disturbed by global warming. It's not just their species but others that migrate and effect global patterns, like the bees that we have become familiar with. Worse it's happening in the ocean, which once spawned all life. The ocean is a repository of life and we are destroying it. The ducks as a water species are a symbol of it. That's the information I got.

4. Interesting.
I live on a migratory path, so I see birds all the time (including ducks who live in my neighborhood).

5. just throwing out ideas......... please feel free to ignore :)
It is time to duck and keep your head down. Let the other people deal with a certain situation because it's not your responsibility as tough as it is to see how painful the situation is. Duck and cover because the fallout will be ugly.

6. I would see this a a sign to realize that despite the empathy
Edited on Wed Jun-18-08 02:38 PM by DemExpat
we may feel for others' sufferings, unknownings and mistakes, we really have no power to direct them in their lives.

This is a lesson I have been learning in my adult life.
It can be most painful to watch, and we can give counsel if asked, but other than that, we can just observe, teach by example, and feel compassion.

Powerful dream, IMO.

7. Ducks are mediators between heaven and earth.
Ducks often symbolize the ability to travel the three realms of air, water and earth. As a 'spirit' bird in many fairy tales, they represent a magical element because of this ability to exist in different dimensions.

Has your spirituality taken a hit recently? Have you lost your ability to soar through the higher realms?

It's sunset, and so something is ending so a new day can be born.

If it's not about you, are you seeing the end of an old belief system that can't even save itself, while the water of life lies right there?

Just some musings.

8. Dreams can work at many levels and sometimes all the levels are true.
But if you've tried but can't connect it to somebody in your life who is in that situation, it probably has to do with self. So the advice would be turned to you. In what way are you being burned up, the "duck" part? The fact it was a mallard, a beautiful migrating bird, makes me think, if it was my dream, that it has to do w/ my inner self or the soul as somebody else suggested.

But in what way am I refusing to settle down and let the spirit of calmness and spirituality put the fire out, now as I end a particularly beautiful phase of my life? I'm still unsettled and fired up about something or maybe many things. If it were my dream, I'd think I'm too enraged and angry about certain things, many of them political.

I think this could be my dream, seen in the way I see it anyway.

But of course it's your dream and it has to make an Ah! connection with you for it to serve its purpose completely.

I always think about what happened to me the previous day before I start to work with the dream. And sometimes it applies to what is on the docket for the next day. In either case, it applies to what's happening now in my life.

Good luck.

9. There was an image that crossed my mind upon reading this.
It was of a phoenix that rose from the ashes.

10. Thank you to everyone
(I wish I could post to all at once).

I think everyone's interpretation has a bit of truth to it. And I think I know what it means now. In a nutshell, the dream is about someone I know and they have to learn their own lessons. Unfortunately for them, they've chosen the hard way to do it. So, yes, I think I'll "duck" out of the way and enjoy my sunset until it's over. :)
