Celebrate your kittie thread.
Since I have recently become digitally enabled, there is now a picture of Boogie.
He's sitting on one of those knee pads for gardening. He's claimed it for his scratching pad.
He doesn't know how to ham it up yet ;)

Post yours if you like.

When she walks away with her tail up, do the markings on the back of the legs make her look like she has her butt in the air? That's Boogie. I love those little pink noses and lips! I've never had a Tuxedo before and I just adore him!

17. I love pink noses and lips, too. One of my cats has a white
nose with a black dot on the end. My husband always used to say it "looks like someone's been after Oscar's nose with a magic marker!" All of my cats are combinations of black and white. My sister says I need some diversity--a bit of orange, yellow, or red, or maybe some blue eyes. I can't help it that all the cats who have chosen me have this B/W color combination.

20. Thanks to Dream, I can post pics of my two good boys
I have many, hope you don't mind.

I don't have any digital pictures of Callie, the calico for whom I name myself. I had her 19 years, and lived with her longer than anyone in my life, parents, spouses, anyone. Although my husband is closing in on her record now. She was a wonderful cat, although only to me. Standoffish to the rest of the world.

Along came Henry and Simon just at the time that Callie passed away. They were barn kitties found in the ditch by a friend who offered them to us. They are brothers, but just as different as they can be, and both incredibly affectionate.

Henry in the garden:

But this shows his personality better:

And this is Simon:

Simon is just a little slip of a grey cat:

While Henry is a big bruiser:

And just for fun, this is Ruffy, our Pomeranian girl, who thinks she is just another member of the pride. She is smaller than Henry! The boys tolerate her well. Simon even goes with us for walks.

Thanks again, Dream, for helping me figure out how to post these!

They're beautiful! Thank you for sharing them with us.

My neighbor's cat sometimes walks with my husband and me. She'll be there one minute and then we won't see her for 5 minutes and then she'll reappear again. People in the neighborhood have commented on how unusual it is that she does this. We are very honored to have her deign us worthy of her presence. (Treats = love to her.)

37. I have a kitty I got a shelter with that. I call it the Scarlett O'Hara syndrome
'I swear with God as my witness I will nevah go hungry again!'

Poor little Sonja would sit right in the middle of the bowl and eat and eat and eat with a determined look on her face as if she was going to eat until she would pop rather than miss one fragment of kibble. She was preganant when they got her at the shelter and could barely see. Her eyes were cloudy and she would run into things. I figure she was so malnourished it had made her partially blind and stunted her growth as well. I would let her over eat *slightly* before taking away her food telling her all the time that I would never let her go hungry and petting her. Of course this was after over a month of her totally hiding from us under furnature and me shoving food and water under the bed she perfered to hide under the most so she wouldn't have to feel exposed to get to the food. If i even looked at her as she came out to scout around in the middle of the night she was gone like a bullet. I would sit near where she hid and talk to her being careful to only observe from the corner of my eye so as to not frighten her. I would ask all beings of Light willing to help to please help her understand she was safe now. It took a long time but after about a year she stopped trying to gorge and settled on having a wee little belly as a compromise. Oh and last year she started looking at me like she could actually focus a bit and her eyes are now a clear beautiful blue. She will actually help herself to my lap when she is in the mood with a little squeek that is her meow as well :) I posted my photos of her and my other kitties below. She is buddies with my other meezers and Fredric the Ragdoll. She will play at times with the others but only cuddles with Angel, Kali, and Fredric.

43. Please use it if you like it. Sometimes imagery from pop culture helps people understand
a disorder. For example my Mother doesn't understand that I am a bit OCD about some things but she understands when I say I am more like Adrian Monk that is healthy.

I have another kitty that acts anorexic. Well part of that is chronic renal failure but even before she was in the early stages of that she would barely eat. I would have to stay and pet her while she ate or she would flounce off in a huff. If I even talk to one of the other cats or pet them - even while still petting her with my other hand - she leaves. I asked the vet about cats being anorexic and he said any mental problem people can have cats can have. We feed her kitten food to make sure that every bite of kibble does her as much good as possible because I don't know how she can live on such tiny amounts of food. Maybe my Angel cat really is an an Angel of some sort and lives on our love for her.

33. Votes
I am going to join this thread in earnest when I can get some decent pics of my two boys, Spidey and Jake.

Even though I have four wonderful children, and five wonderful grandchildren, these two boys are very special to me (and, when I talk to them, I refer to myself in relation to them as "mama").

Our special "little ones", whether they be dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. are really more a part of our lives in ways that our kids and grandchildren can't be.

For instance, they live with us. Not only that, they sleep with us (in the way that THEY choose). They can watch us taking showers (or baths), and, they can sit at the bathroom door demanding to be let in with many the paws under the door.

At the end of the day, these sweet creatures will never hold a grudge, will never gossip to someone else about you, and, most important, they will always believe that YOU are the best thing that has ever happened to them.

I feel so blessed that my two boys decided to allow me to adopt them. I also feel blessed that they decided to stay.

36. Here are my Fluffmeisters
All the Ragdolls are related except for Eartha-Callie. My Mom is friends with the Ragdoll breeder who had to give them away because her son's asthma became life threatening around their cats. She knows my Mom takes special care of our kitties so she begged her to take them all. (btw Eartha is her name now because we already had a Kali and the names were too similar. Eartha is such a lovely lady with that big eyed face and husky little voice that the resemblance soon struck me :))

45. Oh Georgie is a flirt. He turns those big blue eyes on me and my heart melts all over again
I know I am not supposed to have favorites with my kids but Georgie and Fredric are my favs. They just radiate such sweetness and are so tender hearted. We were gifted with them when they were 2 months and when they were about 7 months we were given Isis their full sister from an unplanned second litter. Oh how they adored her! They would cuddle and bath her - and she the stinker would bit them on the ear until they cried! Fredric and Georgie would then resume their ministrations as if nothing happened! This, in part, has given Isis a really high opinion of herself. When someone tells her she is beautiful she turns her little head to the side and lifts her chin as if to say 'Of COURSE I am beautiful! In fact I am GORGEOUS!!! Now you may admire my profile!'. If she is being onry picking on Fred and George or something similar I will go up to her and stroke her black streak on her face telling her now i know what it is - her mean streak. She then gives me a shocked and offended look and takes off. I can't help but love that funny little brat. She has such a sweet side under than mean streak that I think I managed to capture in a couple of those pix.

Eartha-Callie is such a sweetie who adores being brushed. She comes running the minute I pick one up even if I know she was in the opposite end of the house so how could she know i had one??? I wish her pix came out better because she has rich, lustrous dark yellow eyes the color of antique gold coins and her coloring is so beautiful. Those photos do not do Earth justice! I also wish I could get a clip of her little meow. It is such an adorable husky little voice. She has the most gravitas of any cat I have known a very queenly elegance, not arrogant like Isis but a true Lady of a person. She also has powerful energy in her that is very loving and maternal even tho I don't think she ever had kittens. I often touch my forehead to my kitties when we cuddle and the first time I did so with Eartha I got an almost physical jolt to the third eye that made my brain buzz. I talked my Mother into trying it and she was surprised to feel the same thing when she swears she is not a sensitive like me.

By the way, can you recommend a good brush for long haired cats? I've always had short hairs but Scorpio is a long hair and needs extra grooming. I'm trying to help my Mom and brother take care of him. Your cats look so beautifully groomed, can you give me some hints?

44. Brushes - if your handsome long haired fellow won't tolerate brushing maybe this would work
I got the same brush shown here at Biglots right here in maine for $1. I am just posting the Amazon.uk link because it was the first photo I could find: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Smartgroom-Brush-Self-Cleaning/dp/B000PTQ5U0

This is the only brush my Fredric will let me use on him. All the others will tolerate a little pulling when I hit a snarl but FredFred gives me a hurt and wounded look then runs and hides :( The bristles are flexible plastic so while it takes much more brushing to get the job done it is worth it because I can't stand it when Fredric is hurt.

If Scorpio is more tolerant or is like my Eartha-Callie and actually ENJOYS a vigorous brushing even if it pulls get a rake type brush. I had to get one for small dogs but there are ones made for cats. They are brilliant for getting out the mats and small snarls. Everyone but Fredric tolerates the rake as long as I don't yank on snarls and only brush vigorously once I am sure there aren't any of them. Usually I will brush with the rake brush in one hand and a fine wire bristled cat brush in the other alternating strokes as the rake takes out the mats and snarls and the wire bristle does it on a finer level.

Food as you know is very important for a healthy coat. At the time of most of those photos we were feeding the cats Evo by Innova but money got tighter and the price of Evo went up so we had to downgrade. If you can afford it Evo gave them the best softest coats and needed the least amount of grooming. The food we feed now is not as good so they need more grooming. The Ragdolls were fed by the breeder one of the expensive vet brands but their fur was never so nice and soft and their coats not so full, long and fluffy as after eating Evo for a month. I need to look around again and see if I can't get a better buy on Evo or at least maybe start feeding them half and half...

46. Here is my Uncle Leo -- my Grandmother's kitty and daddy of my Ragdolls
Edited on Tue May-13-08 02:41 PM by Shallah
As I said before the breeder couldn't keep her kitties so she tried to find good homes. Leo ended up with my Grandmother who while she hasn't had pets in years is an animal lover. She will call and ask to talk to her Grandcats when she is in FL for the winter and visits them (and us humans) when she is in ME. Her doctor agreed that Leo is a support pet for my nearly 90 year old Grandmother so he gets to ride with her on the airplane. She wouldn't have taken him unless she could do that for there is no way she would send him to be with the luggage.

Leo is a ham. When I asked him to pose for those photos he really did pose. He would get into different positions and hold them while I clicked away then he would pose in another position and then another. Maybe it helped I kept telling him how wonderfuly, handsome and gorgeous he was the entire time ;)

Have the doctor prescribe an animal as a "support" animal for older people! I'm sure there are many other classes as well as the ones we traditional think of. New thinking for me.

48. Leo has a certificut of some sort from Gram's Doc saying he is a support pet
I have heard of this sort of thing be used with people with different disorders to be allowed to keep a pet in normally pet free apartments. In Gram's case it is to make sure Leo can ride with her on the plane in his samsonite kitty carry on carrier. Leo truly is a support to Gram. She absolutely adores him and he adores her. Almost everyday she will call to tell us something cute he did as well as when he sneaks up into the attic and won't come down. I have now supplied her with pouches of kitty treats in crinkly bags with instructions to crinkle the bag and call him and then give him several tidbits so he will come when called instead of hiding up there all day until the stinker is good and ready to come down!

63. It's a cat walking jacket
They are more comfortable for the cat than a figure 8 harness.

Pad Thai has one too.

51. It's great to see pictures of Jake and Spidey again, Hope.
They are such sweet kitties. Jake must be much smarter than my cats, or maybe you're much smarter than I. Never could get one of mine leash-trained.

52. Yes, they *are* both beautiful!
Like japple, I'm really impressed that you are able to get Jake to cooperate by walking on a leash. :wow:

Thanks for sharing with us, Hope.

57. Spidey has the coolest face
In the photo of the two together they look like teenage boys with time on their hands, trying to figure out what they want to do now. And being peeved by the photographic intrusion. :-)

59. oops I see now it is a leash
(after the rest pointed it out  ) I used a leash when Boogie first started going outside. A long ball of string worked better. He was small so it was fine. He really wanted to get out there and jump around in the grass.

62. Thank you so much
each of you for responding to my pics of Spidey and Jake. I haven't been online too much recently. Otherwise, I would have responded sooner. I am pretty tired as a result of my new job.

Thank you for responding and thinking that my boys are beautiful.

53. Greenlee
Greenlee is my "garden cat." I adopted her at about 16 weeks from a fellow DU-er, a lovely person by the name of Denise, about five years ago. Denise rescued Greenlee, her mommy, and her siblings and found them all homes. Greenlee's mom and her little family were found under a huge rosebush outside Denise's house out near Freeport, LI.

All the cats in that family were incredibly beautiful. Greenlee's sister is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen. Anyway, here's Greenlee looking up at me in the garden:

I put a cat fence up and the morning glories grew up the fence and into the cat fence barrier. Greenlee, trying to get out but unable to, decided to make lemonade out of her "lemon" and used the cat fence as a hammock!

Here she is in front of my fireplace:

And here it appears she is dreaming of desserts! :)

She is the sweetest cat. She's very smart but ditzy. She's not a particularly good hunter, thank heavens. Mostly she just likes to hang around with the plants, sunning herself. Sometimes she goes over to my neighbor Karen's house and visits her bulldog buddy, Morsel. When Karen and I have tea outdoors, she always joins us. She's such a good kitty and I love her so much.

56. what a great picture
That one where Greenlee sits amid the morning glories looks like some kind of painting, like she should be a grand lady with a parasol instead of a cat.

58. What a sweetie!
I'm not familiar with "cat fence". Where can I find out what that is? I'm moving to a house with a big cyclone fenced back yard. Boog has been plenty safe where I am now due to the seclusion and wide open spaces. I've been worried about how I'm going to keep him around after the move.

60. a variety
Hi, Votes,

there are a variety of cat fence systems out there but I based mine on this one:

http://www.catfencein.com/index.php

I didn't order from them, though, as they weren't good on the phone in regard to questions.

If you Google "cat fence," you'd be surprised at how much comes up--the field has grown over the years.
