Has anyone ever attended a Shraddha before? It's an ancient Vedic ceremony.
The Shraddha is an ancient Vedic ceremony of prayers and offerings for pleasing and giving peace to a departed soul. During the ceremony, the energies of all creation are symbolically offered. These prayers release the soul from all attachments of the world and help family and friends accept the death and liberation of a loved one.
It sounds beautiful and profound.
I am going to one on Sunday. The husband of a good friend of mine died last week of throat cancer. She had been supporting him on his dying journey for a long time and inspired me with her grace in the midst of great pain. They were both very involved with a local Buddhist community, so I'll be interested to see what the Shraddha is like.
