Something(s) are in my home that only the cats can see or sense.......

Every few days for a few weeks now I catch my cats watching something floating near the ceiling. Occasionally it will come down to about waist height and then go back up to apparently skimming the ceiling. I can't see it nor can my Mother. Sometimes one or two cats will watch one thing while another or two watch another thing in different areas but only in the living room. I can't be mice in the walls and ceiling because they watch it come down and float across the room before going up high again.

These things keep tempting the kitties up onto furnature (like my Grandmother's piano) they know they aren't supposed to be on because of photographs and knick-nacks. I have tried asking whatever it is to please not tempt the kitties up there to no effect. A short time later I will find 3 cats up on the mantle piece so I have had to take everything down and keep squirt bottles loaded, not that a squirt deters them for long.

I am not picking up any bad vibes and none of the cats act scared or worked up like when they bird watch with teeth chattering like telegraphs. They are just wide eyed and utterly fascinated like little kids watching fireflies. They never have made a leap or a grab for the thing(s) they are watching just follow and watch enthralled by the sight.

Anyone wish to take a guess as to what is going on or try to intuit what is going on? So far no harm done to cats nor woodwork and I hope it stays that way.

1. Could they be looking at a wall?

Mice or other rodents might be moving around in the wall. They can hear but you can't.
I know you said it can't be but I don't understand the reason. Couldn't the mice go down a certain amount in the wall and simply go back up again?

6. The things have floated *across* the middle of room at waist height as well as bobbing up high

if it is a mouse it is a ghost mouse or mighty mouse in a klingon cloaking device because no normal mouse floats across the room repeatedly as this thing has.

2. Try a digital camera picture

Maybe that will capture an orb or something. That's what they say, anyway.

I am the kind of person who puts things away in a safe place so it won't get broken and then can't find it for months :silly:

3. Maybe it's a lizard or a very small rodent that you can't

hear, maybe even a snake. A friend of mine had a (harmless) black snake that lived in her attic (she lived in an old farmhouse)for one whole winter, and apparently kept the house free of rodents. It came into the house in the spring and she released it outside. Even though they're harmless, I'm sure it would frighten the bejesus out of me to have one slither out of the chimney.

7. As I said before it floated across the room through empty space more than once

if it only was at the ceiling or across the wall I would think mice but with it floating across empty space more than once I know it is something else. Also when the furkids have found an actual mouse before they didn't just sit and stare in facination. They lurked in the area it was rustling around in with tail lashing and teeth chattering like telegraphs. Ditto when bird and squirrel watching out the window.

4. My new little kitten is doing the same thing.

He just stares at the ceiling and watches with great intensity. He only does it in the living room and my bedroom. It makes me feel safe, like I know someone is watching over me.

5. Very strange... I keep hearing noises in my new place and my

cats ignore it. But the weird thing is that my cats are always with me when
I hear the noises, so I can't blame it on them. The best way to describe the
sound is as if someone took a fork and rapped it on a counter-- once. It's
never a continual noise. Weird.
