Who here makes his/her living as a professional astrologer?
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 01:31 PM by I Have A Dream
I ask so that the people in this forum know who we can contact if we wish to have our charts read professionally.

Thanks!

1. LOL! How's this for timing?
I was just thinking this morning that I want an astrologer to pick a wedding date for me and my honey...it will be a few years from now but I wanted to get some possible dates to look at.

2. Please define making a living LOL
Lately not so much.

Wired totally to the barter system and as a total reincarnated Lemeurian I just give away more freebies than I can sometimes afford. I've never sent a bill in my life. I've a lot of long term clients who just cut and send me a check when spirit moves them to do so after a bunch of phone readings which I of which I don't keep track. I'm good at recording income but not so at recording time spent. (Venus retro, Neptune in the 2nd)

I've been a questionable pro for 26 years. I've only gotten two bad checks ever and they were both from the very same spaced out and disorganized college kid. No ill intent there.

Am always happy to give away freebies whenever spirit moves me. But it always doesn't do so expecially with periodic financial constraints and when people want written readings which take a boatload of time and distract me from my collective spiritual/political/sometimes humorous prayer contributions. It's far easier for me to do phone readings with the other stuff I'm up against.

Rick is a pro. He's great at harmonics. And very funny.

Chemical Bill thinks he's too heavy but could easily be one and I think has done so in the past.

cassie unquestionably could be a karmic one if she only dared (woh I'll hear it for that one) :)

wickfordbard is the ultimate "story lady" and a extraordinarily talented one and also a Jungian who was trained in Zurich.

Nancy Waterman is great and one but she hasn't been around lately.

Sorry if I forgot anyone because there are some other insightful ones lurking and contributing from time to time.

Shucks, even autorank is fluent but shhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone.

DISCLAIMER: Dream in a fairly thinly veiled effort is kindly trying to help me out of a jam as I've been dumping on her privately for the last week. I thank her profusely for doing what I didn't ask her to do.

It's odd. The people who excel at this obtuse field are often great at self promotion. Those better at listening are often not so. It's a paradox totally. . .Or as I so often say. . ."an erratic profession at best."

oops I mean on this forum.

Stella there are many people who are very talented at what they do,
but are not good at the business end of things.
Get some help with that end if you need to.

And for god's sake start charging for your work, and then COLLECT the fees.
And do some promotion and marketing.
Get your website up and running again....

Make your astrology business your prime focus, and get some revenue coming in! You have the talent, skills and personality for it, go get it!

"I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And damn it. . .people like me." LOL

You are reminding me of an older Jewish lady (I say that with great endearment) I met when I was in my mid 20's she said,"Honey, in life there are creative types and then there are business types. You are not a business type."

Understatement or what?

But beyond the whole self promotion thingy, where do I fit in the whole saving the planet thingy. That's kinda my bizarro 12th house conundrum.

As we all know, I'm quite allergic to capitalism.

Yup and Dream's an earth angel for sure of the finest and most admirable caliber.

And you, you, you, I just knew I'd hear it from you.

9. I'm not done Stella. My husband is an MBA and he would have your head on a platter
for ignoring your accounts receivable (uncollected fees for services). That is like money you are flushing down the drain. And for giving it away.

You can save the planet later, save yourself now. If you cannot eat or pay the rent you can't save anything.

Spiritually we cannot let greed and ego rule our work. But we are certainly entitled to payment for a hard and honest day's work. Enough to put a roof over our heads and food on our tables. God knows we can't live on good works and love.

Most communities have small business associations, with classes, or volunteer managers who will help you with your business.

11. Yikes give the woman a crown and she gets really bossy.
I tend to blame my imaginary secretary and that probalby isn't good magic at all.

I'm okay and far luckier than most. That's why I HAVE to give back on a daily basis.

How Neptunian is that dear?

I'm just irked that someone hustled me for a written reading a couple of weeks ago. I never do those, She is affluent and it took me 8 hours to do a decent job on it. I loathe typing readings with no feedback.

She wanted to send me a paltry amount. I said screw it, just give me some parties over the next several months.

Since then, I've been pathetically rolling quarters. It was a bad energetic is all.

I truly screwed up when I had been on a roll. For me at least.

Before you do a reading, make it clear to the client the financial arrangements. And if the client is asking for something unusual or different which increases your labor costs, then charge extra. All agreements should be made prior to the reading.

You can even collect fees prior to the reading. That is how it is done in many places.

If you are delivering high quality professional readings, than act like a professional when it comes to the business end of things!

Stella, I am about as Neptunian as a person can get. But I have learned my lesson that we are not meant to be victims and martyrs in this life. I know I keep saying that over and over but it is an important message. Allowing yourself to be used is BAD karma, and you will have to work on it again in the next life. So why not work on it now.

I just appear now and then on the Stella and Cassie show. They are both very fine astrologers, and yes, that includes Cassie who keeps denying her very fine talents. I have been at it since 1978, professionally since 81, but only full-time with an office for 3 years. It is my passion, no doubt.

Also, I am very impressed with Wickfordbard and just met chembill...

And as I ruminated recently, Ms. IHAD has great potential too.

But make no mistake about it, this is Stella's place...:pals:

19. A day late and a dollar short???
Is that something our parents would say? Anyway, thanks for the kind words Stella, as well as Rico.

I've been telling Stella for years that she's got to get paid. We are not living in monestaries this lifetime!

atlthough I see myself mainly as a Jungian Dream Lady, lately I have been making most of my money as an astrologer. As a matter of fact, what ever happened to all those dreams we were hooking up with Astrology? I've been working on mine. Have you been working on yours?

As for professional work, I'm planning to do a dream - and yes, astrology - class via those phone conference thing-a-ma-bobs. Can I say that here on the forum? Or is that promoting myself?

I haven't had a session with Cassie, but she sounds fascinating. And Rick gave me the confirmation I needed with his insights into the 12th harmonic chart.

You are all great - just the questions you raise are impressive.

26. At one point in time the "Pros" didn't even TALK about that in here.
Seriously, there was like this "Shhh" sort of thing going on that some of them were here and didn't want to discuss paid readings. I always assumed that for most of them it was a desire NOT to self promote (as if this forum wouldn't recognize who has a clue and who doesn't!) but I also kind of figured there was a sincere desire not to compete with each other too.

I miss seeing Nancy in here, and I also miss seeing some of the others. I also have kind of seen this as a place that people will orbit thru for a period of time and they may move on sooner than we'd like, but it is a "no harm no foul" thing for me if they do choose (or happen) to move on.

Frankly, I am of the opinion that if I am gonna spend my money on a reading I'd prefer that it be spent with somebody that maybe has some values in common with me, and is somebody known to me that I have a comfort level with. I do think every reader has a different set of folks they appeal to, and every approach is gonna be different. That may be why I appreciate the idea of maybe discussing how we want to deal with the subject of "advertising" or even identifying who does this stuff as a source of income.

I totally identify with Cassie's comment about blowing minds in some settings, and I also totally "get" the feeling that somehow you are not "good" enough to even set foot on the playing field. That feeling of inferiority is difficult to get past for any reader, I suspect. When I first started reading Tarot (oh so many years ago!) I felt totally intimidated by people that had been at it for a while. I still do in certain company, but it is less as the years pass.

I find Astrology especially overwhelming to learn but fascinating at the same time. I can't imagine EVER getting to a comfort level with it, myself, but at the same time, I'd be willing to hire a reader from here when I have some cash to spare. I have long suspected that my "bent" is more toward the intuitive or "vision" rather than charts, but I honestly do think it all comes together in one big tidy package.

Tarot, Numerology, Astrology--it is ALL a way to look at a life (or series of lives) and it is a way to understand why and how we do the stuff we do. we all make choices, but there is a REASON why we make those choices, I think. You guys have all helped me sort thru some of it, and I'll never be able to express how much value I place in this group.

I wonder--do you guys WANT to have the discussion of who is willing to do what from here? Do we WANT to establish some kind of "policy" or create a list of readers here? Do we maybe want to put together a list of who does or is interested in the various subjects and who earns a living doing it?

It is good idea, I think, for us to work on something--but I honestly am not sure what.

,if they have a website, it would be nice to have access to it. It is indeed a fine line that we don't want to cross, but I think that it's also really nice to know who is available if we want to get a professional reading. Anyone interested could then contact the person via PM.

The pros give so much to us here; they'd certainly be the first people to whom I'd personally go if I wanted a professional reading. Of course, nobody would be obligated to follow suit.

Thanks for your input, Laura. :)

31. Whoa!! There was no intent to anger or wound here!
Oh man--I am SO SORRY if I stepped into something and make you feel I was being evil or angry! THAT was nowhere on my radar!

My reference to the past folks n here was made, in part, because THEY put it off limits themselves and THEY had that attitude at the time. Frankly, I have been th recipient of much help and advice on here and I would NEVER feel like I have any room to be critical of ANY reader on here (Remember--I'm such a weenie I won't even read for the public any more!)

I have NEVER seen anybody on here trying to "hustle" anyone, and I have my doubts that any hustler would be here too long simply because I doubt our "vibe" would allow it. For that matter, I have always loved the exchanges here because they feel like are freely chosen as the gifts they are...

Fact: I would rather have somebody I know and trust read for me--like YOU guys if I didn't manage to make that clear earlier--than to go out in the hard old world and roll the dice with readers I don't know and have no clue about. You guys are my family--I'd trust any of you. WE have talked on here about some of the "predators" out there that are in it for a buck, and we are not talking about that in here.

The ONLY concern I had at the time I posted to this discussion is that I do not want any newbie (or oldie for that matter!) to feel intimidated into silence (and thus not learning!) by the presence of people who do this as a paying gig. Not everyone is able to let it all hang out, and not everyone is able to get past that inferiority feeling I was talking about. (I used my own lack of confidence to illustrate it.)

Now I feel like a complete asshole because I never intended ANYONE on here to feel a negative off my comments earlier.

I'll just go sit in the corner for a while...*
