Why do some people feel the need to put people down, who
didn't do anything to them?

I posted something in another forum, just a simple requst, and was told, basically, to get over myself, and that I could not handle truth and reality.

I know I shouln't let it bother me, because that kind of stuff is more about the person who said it, than it is about me. Nonetheless, it hurt me.

1. Oh. I'm sorry. And I think that particular putter-downer did that to you
because s/he is afraid of your perception of truth and reality.

2. I know.
I guess he/she thinks that we who live on the west coast aren't entitled to the reality of our time zone?

3. I gotta say, I feel much better now.
I had a lot of support on that thread, and wow, did that feel great. Restores my faith in that there are more GOOD, SUPPORTIVE people than bad, non-supportive ones, around me.

6. There are broken people who need to hurt others to feel better.
But it doesn't really work.

And their messages are more about themselves then you.

12. I know, cassie
And I'm not going to start acting like them. It just stings a bit when they do it.

18. I know it hurts, that is what they want. But good on not getting in the gutter with them.
They are going to have to feel your pain in their karmic review
on the other side.

21. In the past, I would have done just that, but not any more.
Putting myself in the gutter is harmful to me, and I know it affects others, too.

I think a lot of folks are in for a rude awakening when that review comes around, but hopefully, they will learn something from it.

22. I always remind myself that I don't want to start kicking sand in the sandbox
with someone acting like they are 3 yrs old.
Not healthy.

Yep some interesting lessons learned in the karmic review.

9. Some people just live to vent I swear.
Sorry you got put down but glad you got support that over compensated for the put down. Post the link if you want us to chime in as well.

Your post reminded me of what somebody posted on my election day prayer thread. An early responder said "This isn't Dungeons and Dragons you know." I said, "Are you sure. . .?" LOL

15. I remember seeing that, stellanoir. That was a great response.
I just looked at the thread again, and yet another person is saying the the solution is NOT for other DUers to not post results in the subject line (this was regarding the Grammys) but for me to stay away from DU until the next day! :eyes:

17. Have you read The Four Agreements?
It IS about them, not about you.

Some people wouldn't survive if they had to think positively or say postive things. They always look for the negative. Be grateful you aren't like that.

23. Now that I've seen that thread
I had the feeling that DU would be all over the grammies and, as another west-coaster, I was glad I wasn't reading DU at the time. I knew people would be going nuts over the Dixie Chicks.

Sorry it all got spoiled for you. Just those few buttheads didn't get that all they had to do was put SPOILER in their subject.

The only thing we get live here is the Oscars.

The Four Agreements is really great - author is Don Miguel Ruiz. His other book, The Mastery of Love, helped me a lot as well.

24. The thing that really made me shake my head is that the nasty
responses were to a simple request I made, which included a "please" and a "thank you". Not exactly world-on-fire stuff, huh? I once made the mistake of putting a particular day's Worst Person in the World (a la Keith Olbermanns Countdown) in the subject line and possted it in GD, and wow! People were all over me for that one, telling me NOT to put the news in the subject line, so I've never done that again. Apparently, though, when I make the same request, there's something wrong with me. :eyes:

I guess it just shows that some people's thermostats are permanently set on "Very Angry", huh? :)

25. I'm late to this...
...but no less sorry to see you so distraught, Seattle Girl. :( I'm so sorry that someone hurt your feelings. You're right, it is more about them than you--but that sort of thing is no less hurtful.

I love the saying of one metaphysical teacher that says, "what you think of me, is none of my business." After pondering that a while, I can see the wisdome in that. Why should we care, what someone else thinks of us? ...why should you? ;)

Please don't let it get you down.
