Senator Hillary Clinton: "I'm In to Win"

New York, N.Y. -- Democratic Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton announces her bid for the presidency. The announcement was made today on her website. "I'm in. And I'm in to win," said Clinton.

"I believe that change is coming November 4, 2008. And I am forming my exploratory committee because I believe that together we can bring the leadership that this country needs," said Clinton. "I'm going to start this campaign with a national conversation about how we can work to get our country back on track."

Clinton is considered a front runner along with Illinois Senator Barack Obama and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson intends to announce his plans to run tomorrow.

Well it's about time!!!!!!!!!

1. funny, Ms Clinton never gets mentioned were we talk about the Queen of
?Swords? isn't it?

She seems the perfect candidate as the Queen of Swords, smart, blonde and competent

2. I think you're referring to the "Queen of Cups"?
the woman who would bring about the bush admin's downfall.

Clinton, I could see her as the queen of swords or wands. She doesn't seem 'dreamy' enough for the Q of Cups.

I'm getting annoyed by all the Hillary bashing in GD, btw. I posted a thread with links to her voting record in the hopes that people would focus on that instead of made up pejoratives.

3. Not good, IMO.
I was really and truly hoping that she'd stay out, and seeing the lukewarm prospects in the field Al Gore would be convinced to run again.

Now we're going to be force-fed Hillary 24/7 whether Dems across the country want her as their candidate or not. And I do NOT.

Nor do I think she can win. Every Republican - living, dead or imaginary - in the history of the United States, will show up to vote on election day in '08 as a counter to her candidacy and the Dems will get swamped.

6. I tend to agree with you
but, my gut is saying that she has to win the nomination first. I don't think she will. Just a gut feeling, as I said.

25. Hope2006, I agree. I don't think she's going to win the party's
nomination. People want a change, and I agree, Hippiechick, I still am holding out hope for Al Gore.

26. you mean it's not enough
that Rupert Murdoch wants her to run? Ha, I crack myself up.
Now we're going to be force-fed Hillary 24/7 whether Dems across the country want her as their candidate or not. And I do NOT.

I saw her debate some old guy during Bill Clinton's campaign for President. She kicked his butt 3 ways and thoroughly impressed me. She's damned smart and I was impressed with the work she did on health care reform as First Lady.

She comes on strong and makes no pretense about positioning herself politically. No velvet gloves for this lady. No fake smiles either.

That kind of ambition isn't attractive in a woman and I wonder if that's why so many people are turned off by her. Folks are acting like she's Lieberman in drag, but I don't know who she's betrayed.

I have to read her voting record and compare her to other candidates and think a while before I say whether I want her as a candidate. My reaction to the 04 loss really taught me a lesson, so I'm not going to care until the primaries get closer.

7. No, don't be sorry.
Maybe one of the astrologers will look at the chart of when she announced and see what it says. I'll say that she did it at the right time, with the moon waxing. I think Obama did his on the dark of the moon. Wonder if Hillary is using an astrologer. :)

8. welp
I have her chart around here somewhere and have to dig for it but primarily, the only way I've felt about her is "wohhh wouldn't want to be her." I don't like her cautiously retentive though hawkish stance on the war. Don't like two families governing us for so long and also feel she's so-o-o polarizing she might have more than a little difficulty bringing any sort of cohesiveness to this land.

Beyond all of that, this ought to be mildly entertaining.

9. Stellanoir
she is also quite a "corporatist". As an example, she has a connection with TaTa -- an Indian company that offshores and outsources -- meanwhile replacing our workers with Indian workers. This is all part of the "globalization" efforts that are supposed to make the world be a better place.

What the globalists forgot to mention is that the end result is that the world is a better place -- but only for the elite -- and certainly not for the US.

So much I could say, but once I saw that Ms. Clinton associated herself with this company, I was sure that she did not have the future of American workers at heart.

11. That's exactly how I feel, stellanoir.
We will have had, what, 8 years of Clinton and, gulp, TWELVE years of Bushes. Enough is enough. I, too, want some new blook in the White House. Preferable, some new liberal blood.

13. it doesn't seem like a 'fair' criticism - but it's also my main misgiving about Clinton
dynastic political families - it's the last thing america needs. but maybe it's also unfair because Hillary Clinton is a smart, hardworking woman in her own right - apart from association with Bill Clinton.

15. I agree, kineta, it doesn't seem "fair" at all.
My basic requirement for a candidate is the ideas they have, and my feelings about whether they could make headway in carrying them out.

And I also agree that Hillary IS smart and hardworking. It's not just that she's a Clinton that makes me kind of shy away from her, but also that I feel she is not as "clear" as I would like. What I mean by that is, she seems to be trying to walk two roads simultaneously. Pandering to corporations on one hand, and yet in other ways being "for the people."

17. It's funny - I rely on my intuition when making most decisions
but when it comes to politics I really want facts - voting records, campaign contributers, endorsements, and so forth.

Clinton isn't my first choice by any means. I'm leaning toward Kucinich, but then someone posted that he used to be anti-choice and changed his position when entering the last presidential race. I don't know if it's true or not and how it will affect my choice. Lots of research to do. I'm really hoping people will stick to facts about candidates, but elections seem to be very emotional for most people.

19. I definitely add facts to intuition when it comes to politics.
I totally belive in being an informed voter. It's just that when I get a strong feeling about a candidate, I figure it into the mix, but I add a healthy dose of facts as well.

To not do so would be the same as voting for someone just because you find them physically attractive.

20. hope you know I wasn't directing that at you ;-)

I mean, I sort of try to take my 'feelings' out of it. And I don't usually do that in other situations.

It's just because I see so many people voting for candidates for the most superficial reasons - or rather - hate candidates for superficial reasons, and there's so much spin and manipulation going on that I find it hard to sort it out.

I feel like my new crusade is to get people to focus on politician's actions and voting records, not their 'charisma' or what have you.

We're up late in Seattle tonight, huh? ;-)

21. I didn't take it that way, kineta. Not at all.
And I agree with you. I look at candidate's voting records, etc. Your crusade has been mine for years and years. When I met MrSG, he told me he was a registered voter BUT HAD NEVER VOTED!!!

Now, he votes in elections, but before he votes, he does research into the candidates and issues, so that he is an informed voter. I've helped many others become informed voters too. Intuition has it's place, I believe, but so does research and information and informed decisions.

And, as to being up late: that's my modus operandi!

12. I've been posting Clinton's voting record left and right tonight
one thing that contradicts this is her YES vote on cutting subsidies for corporations that outsource jobs.

Here's a link to her voting record - it's not perfect by any means but I'm not sure it's fair to call her a 'corporatist':
http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Hillary_Clinton.htm

I'd like to hear more about her connection with TaTa - what IS her connection exactly? Please don't take this as a challenge - I'm trying to educate myself on all the candidates.

16. What I am referring to
is a news story between Ms. Clinton and TaTa in Buffalo NY. I do not have a link, but, I can tell you that I was pretty upset about it. I also think that if you search deep enough, you will find this.

I want to like her -- but, I do not think she would represent us, the average persons. I do believe she will represent whatever company or corporation that throws "big bucks" her way.

18. Ah - looked it up - found a reference on wikipedia
says she was successful in soliciting TaTa corporation to "to set up shop in economically beleaguered Buffalo" but it was then discovered that much of Tata's business involves outsourcing American jobs overseas.

So the question is, did she know that she was supporting a company that outsources? Did she simply overlook it because they were bringing jobs to her state? Or did she just not do her homework?

It doesn't seem quite the same as her being responsible for outsourcing US jobs though.

And polls taken now in Holland show that 85% of the Dutch would love to see her as US PResident, and think she has a good chance!
