Dream interpretation?
Any good sites for dream interpretation, or anyone here who is skilled at it? Mostly I'd just like to know what two different entities in my dreams mean - one was a large, wild turkey in the front yard (it was my home in the dream, but not a home I've ever lived in in 'real' life) that in one motion left the ground to fly/soar over the house; and another one was a Native American man dressed as that same wild turkey (in fact, they acknowledged each other in the dream in the front yard of the house before the turkey took off); this gentleman then walked into the house and started to rummage around in the kitchen where I'd been cooking.

I don't usually have dreams like this - they're usually just a mishmash of images, snipped of action, my subconscious sorting through images of the day -- nothing really narrative so this one stands out.

If anyone is willing to take a shot, feel free. I saw one site that said turkeys weren't great, but flying turkeys meant something else altogether and seeing a Native American in my dream meant I felt constrained, and desired more freedom from cultural and societal restraints...

Thanks!

1. do an author search for wickfordbard
Or I think she posted last on my Pluto in Sagg discussion thread down on the page.

In her sig line is the link for her website or just PM her. She was trained at the Jungian Institute and I've never met ANYONE with a better understanding of symbols, myths, and legends. That's why I call her "the story lady."

She's amazingly talented.

I'm sure she can give you some insight.

3. I'll have a go
My first impression was that you were dreaming of a turkey because although it's a common bird, and one people take for granted and even ridicule, it can be quite beautiful. The turkey flying over your house seems akin to "a pig soaring"--something taking off in your life, the start of something successful.

Native Americans often can be perceived as highly spiritual humans and this one could be a spirit guide visiting you. Because it was also dressed as the turkey, and because he entered your house, it sounds like this successful venture is "taking up residence" in your life. And perhaps his rummaging through your kitchen means that it's starting to get under way--"get cooking", almost literally.

Do you have something starting in your life that could be "big"?

5. several different things that could be very big...
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 04:24 PM by Flaxbee
... one, my husband and I might be on the cusp of a HUGE project that would be very helpful to us after an extremely long dry spell, work-and-income wise. But second, because we've been in such a drought, and because I feel a lot of it is due to his inactivity/passivity (he's the tech entrepreneur; I quit my career (which I loathed, wasn't hard to talk me into quitting being an attorney) to be management/support/etc., but there hasn't been a lot to manage. He used to be very successful - before we were married - but has been so passive lately).... anyway -- back to me feeling stuck in a rut with someone who hasn't done much heavy lifting work-wise, I've applied for what could be a dream job for me, in the arts, and I have an interview in the coming weeks.

So, I've been feeling hopeful about the joint project, but I've also been feeling more in control of my life, like I'm returning to who I am and what I might enjoy, rather than being the supporting helpmeet for my husband. There are pluses and minuses to both scenarios working out: the joint project would be best financially, but I'd be hitched to my husband; the art job would be a way for me to strike out on my own professionally, but it brings a lot of performance anxiety to the fore and isn't nearly as lucrative. I mean, I intend to stay married, I love him, but working with him has been extremely difficult for me.

And if BOTH worked out, I'd have to choose because of location/geographical necessities.

So, I'm very conflicted as to what the dream is telling me.

edited to add: thank you for replying - I appreciate your input. It was helpful!

4. Stella told me to get on this right away
:-) :-)

Since I don't know you or the specifics of the dream - meaning in what order and if there's more than you've stated, I'll just give you my thoughts.

Turkey is a sacred animal to the Native Americans. It's about the sacrifice that feeds the community. (I have a great story about someone picking the Turkey medicine card, but that's for another day!) Anyway, it's the animal sacred to the give-aways. The turkey soaring off is a very spiritual image. Where are you beginning to give of yourself to others? What have others given to you? Are you awakening to gratitude?

the native american man takes on the attributes of Turkey - that same selflessness. For american women, the native man represents our inner masculine animus - the earthy, sensual part of the masculine spirit that women value = and often our culture doesn't. I've done a lot of work with the issue of women leaving the 'father's house' - meaning how we stop being 'father's daughters' - both individually and culturally - and start finding our own feminine standpoint.

So this dream is an inaugural dream about finding your individual perspective on something - and it wants to nourish you.

If you want to get more specific, email me at wickfordbard@hotmail.com

7. Wild turkey
I was reading the various posts on your dream, and thought how interesting that one symbol can have so many meanings. I mean, simultaneously. Maybe you are connected to Native Americans in some way, and the wild turkey flying over the house does show a successful venture of some sort. Flying is most often a sense of freedom and things coming easily. In addition to those esoteric interps, I was wondering if the wild turkey could represent your husband (in some way)? If that were the case, it could show some of the layers of your roots with him, as well as a general sense of success in his future. As well, it could humorously show his "turkeyness" as a business partner.
